Eniola Akinbo popularly known by her stage name as Niyola is a famous Nigerian singer, songwriter, recording artiste, stage performer, model and a philanthropist. She was born on 9th December 1985 in Lagos State in the western part of Nigeria. She is currently 32 years old. She is originally from Ilesa in Osun State, Nigeria.
According to her, Mariah Carey is her role model. She is the last child in a family of ten children. Niyola completed both her primary and secondary school education in Lagos State, Nigeria and obtained both her First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate.
After completing her secondary school education, Niyola proceeded to Independent Journalism Center owned by PM News, where she studied Journalism and obtained a certificate in Journalism. After obtaining a certificate in Journalism, Niyola proceeded to University of Lagos and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language.
Niyola interest in music kicked off when she was 8 years old, she frequently harnessed her singing skills by singing in her local church choir. She sang in church with her siblings and was inspired to pursue a career in music when she attended Funmi Adams concert in Lagos, Nigeria.
Niyola started her musical career professionally in 2000, when she emerged first runner up at the Amen Starlet Competition. In 2005, Niyola was briefly affiliated with eLDee’s Trybe’s Records label. After that she signs a production deal with Freestyle’s Make-Sum Noise Entertainment and released her first three hit singles titled “Me n U (In da club), No More and Dem Say”.
After that, Niyola got signed to Westside Music label and released her first debut studio album containing the smash hits “Bring it on” and “Call my name” a music that earned her two nominations that year at the Hip Hop World Awards.
After the release of her hit singles, Niyola gained recognition in the music industry and performed at major events like the Akon concert in Lagos, Calabar festival in Cross Rivers State, Y’hello Festival alongside with Sasha and toured with CELTEL (now Airtel) in 2008. She also took part in the first girl power Tetmosol project amongst many others. In 2009, she took part in the Ovation Red Carol theme song.
In 2012, Niyola was signed to Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) by Banky W. She is popularly referred to as the first lady of Empire Mates Entertainment (EME). Niyola has worked with several artists such as Sasha P, Sound Sultan, Paul Play, Lynxxx, Wizkid, Banky W, Skales and other top celebrities in Nigeria.
Asides from writing songs and shooting top rated videos, Niyola also does soundtracks for Yoruba movies in her local Yoruba dialect. In 2007, she wrote the theme song for 2face Idibia’s second album concert and also did jingles for Coca Cola and a few other international brands.
However, Niyola has been rumored to be in a romantic relationship with Banky W but she debunked the rumours during an interview with the media and announced she is single. On 22nd May 2013, Niyola released her first hit single “Toh Bad” under the Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) music label.
In 2013, Niyola was nominated for Best Vocal Performance (Female) at the Headies Awards. That same year in 2013, Niyola was nominated for Most Promising Female Act to Watch at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. In 2014, Niyola won the award for Female Artist of the Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.
Niyola is currently one of the richest and most influential female artiste in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $1.5 million.
