All over the world, Africa has the highest rate of presidents that have died while in office. Seems not to be such a rare occurrence having occurred less than 50 times in recorded times with over 13 deaths occurring from 2000 till date. Such deaths have most often been from natural causes and illness, but there are also cases of assassination, execution, suicide and accident.

So in this article I will be sharing with you 10 African Presidents that died while still in office.

1. Michael Sata

Michael Sata was the President of Zambia before he died. He died in 2014 at the age of 77 years old and the cause of his death was undisclosed. He died in England and was buried in his homeland in Zambia. He ruled for 3 years as President of Zambia before he died.

2. Meles Zenawi

Meles Zenawi was the Prime Minister of Ethiopia before he died. He died in 2012 at the age of 57 years old and the cause of his death was an undisclosed sudden infection.
