In today’s article I will be sharing with you 10 Nigerian celebrities who died in August 2018. The Nigerian entertainment industry has lost many talents since the industry became one of the largest in Africa.
We have lost celebrities in the music, movie, fashion, model, comedy, and other entertainment industry. These guys contributed immensely to the growth of entertainment in Nigeria, Africa and rest of the world. So therefore, in this article I will be sharing with you 10 Nigerian celebrities who died in August 2018.
1. Nelson Gold
Nollywood rising actor Ezeora Nelson Oluchukwu known as Nelson Gold died on 14th June 2018 at the age of 22 years old. The fast rising actor Nelson Gold is a graduate of University of Nigeria Nsukka. He slumped while in a movie location. He was rushed to a hospital in Enugu. He remained in coma until he died on 14th June 2018. Nelson Gold died few days after he celebrated his 22nd birthday which was on 5th June 2018. Nelson Gold has been laid to rest in his home town in Enugu State in the south eastern part of Nigeria. Nelson Gold came into limelight after he played the lead role in the movie titled “Black Child”.
2. Alizee
The singer was shot to death by her Danish husband on Thursday 5th April 2018 at their home in Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria. According to reports from Linda Ikeji Blog, a member of the singer’s crew confirms the killings. It was reported that her enstranged husband also killed their 4 years old daughter Petra Nielsen by poison. He drags their dead body under the gas to create the impression that they suffocated to death as a result of a gas leakage. However, Police commenced investigation to unravel the motives behind the murders.
He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison while the body of Alizee and her daughter has been deposited to the mortuary. The Kogi-born singer was signed to an Asian record label called Petra Entertainment in 2017. It was gathered that the record label package include a brand new car and a house in Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria. She also has an international deal and distribution with affiliates of her record company in Asia.
3. Nora Nkiruka Ugo
Fast rising Nollywood actress Nora Nkiruka Ugo reportedly died in January 2018 while fighting with an undisclosed ailment. Her death was reported on social media by her fellow colleague Ruth Kadiri whom pen down emotional tribute to her.
4. Motunrayo Adeoye
The veteran Yoruba actress died on 1st June 2018 after battling with chronic ulcer for so many years. Metro News stated in their report that Motunrayo Adeoye was buried the same day that she died according to Islamic rites at her hometown in Ibadan, Oyo State in the south western part of Nigeria. She joined BCOS Communication in Ibadan in 1970 and worked as a studio engineer for 40 years and retired in 2010. Her mega role in the popular movie “Igbekun” produced by Kunle Afod made her a public figure in Nigeria.
5. Chukwudi Bambino
The death of the Nollywood actor and producer was confirmed through Facebook on Saturday 15th June 2018 by Fidelis Duker. Chukwudi Bambino was a devoted and talented actor and production manager in the Nigerian movie industry popularly known as Nollywood. The cause of his death is yet to be revealed as of the time of this report.
Before his tragic death, he was the producer of the popular movie “The Missing Gold” and many more. Chukwudi Bambino is a graduate of Federal Polytechnic Oko in Anambra State, Nigeria. He worked as the production manager for Movie Company like Guepard Production located in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. According to him, his mentor was Tony One Week, who trained him to become a great movie actor.
He started out his career as a student of Gbenobo Secondary School Agbor in Delta State and later as a member of the Jastix Reggae Ital. In 1989, he released his debut album “Under Pressure” under a record label known as Premier Music which propels him to prominence. His first album has hit songs like Natt Get Jail, Rhumba Style and Under Pressure. The burial rites and ceremony for the late reggae star Ras Kimono took place on 25th August 2018 with many celebrities, public figures, and important dignitaries and personalities in attendant.
6. Aishat Abimbola
The popular Yoruba actress passed away in Canada on 15th May 2018. She was popular for her role in the Yoruba movie “Omoge Campus” and died of breast cancer in a hospital in Canada. Her death was confirmed by her fellow actress, Bisola Badmus, who announced her death on Instagram. Aishat Abimbola was shot into fame with her role as Bola Igada in the popular Yoruba movie “Omoge Campus”. The movie that made her popular is “Eje Adegbenro” a film produced by Jide Kosoko.
She is also popular for her role in Papa Ajasco, No Gain, Aerijaye, So Wrong So Right and Ro’mi T’eje. Before her death, she was a recipient of the City People Entertainment Awards for Yoruba Movie Personality of the Year. She got married to her husband Victor Ibrahim in 2005 and was a proud mother of two beautiful children.
7. Daniel D Third
Daniel d third who is the son of Nigerian famous pop singer D’banj died on 25th June 2018. It was reported that he drowned in the swimming pool which is located in the residence of the pop singer. After which his body was moved to a morgue in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria. It was also gathered that D’banj was in America for the BET awards when the horrible news was passed to him.
8. Ignis Ekwe
The veteran Nollywood actor died on Monday 22nd July 2018 after a brief illness. Ignis Ekwe is a Nollywood actor popularly known for his role in movies like “Everyday People” and “Igodo”. He was also very popular for his role in the Nigeria soap opera like “Behind the Clouds” and Cockcrow at Dawn”. His death was reported by his daughter Susan Emike Ekwe who is a singer and known as Harmonee. His niece Yvonne Jegede who is also a popular Nollywood actress took to her Instagram to mourn the late actor. Before going into acting, he worked as a consultant for the United Nations Children Education Funds (UNICEF).
9. Ras Kimono
The veteran Nigerian musician died on 10th June 2018 after a heart attack that happened on Saturday 9th June 2018. The commissioner of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Honorable Steve Ayorinde on his Instagram account bid farewell to the reggae star. Nigerian Senator Dino Maleye in a post on Twitter also expressed sorrow at the news of Kimono’s death. Ras Kimono whose real name is Ukeleke Unwubuya was very popular in the late 80s with hit song like “Under Pressure”. His music was influenced by the poverty, hardship and inequality he witness in his early life.
