The Nigerian movie industry popularly known as Nollywood has lost its practitioners for the past few years and these Nollywood actors died while filming on several movie location sets in Nigeria. These Nollywood actors have graced our screen with their superlative talents before they were called to glory. So in this article I will be sharing with you 10 Nollywood actors that die on a movie set.
1. Okwy Chukwujekwu
In September 2018, rising Nollywood star actor and comedian Okwy Chukwujekwu also known as Main Bossman was reported dead. He died after having an asthma attack while filming on a movie location. The deceased was buried few weeks after his sudden death. Okwy Chukwujekwu was regarded as one of the most talented comic actors in Nigeria. His physical appearance and behavior in movies put viewers in a state of laughter. He always features in comedy movies and knows how to interpret his roles very well.
2. Alkali Matt
Nollywood actor, Alkali Matt, popularly known as Dareng, died while filming on set on 24th March 2020. Dimbo Atiya who shared the news of his demise on Facebook, stated that Alkali Matt passed on at around 7 pm while he was filming on a set for an epic movie in a village near Keffi. Alkali Matt is popular for his role as Dareng in the African Magic series “Halita.” However, controversial journalist, Kemi Olunloyo claimed the actor died because he had contact with someone who tested positive for Coronavirus at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award.
3. Nelson Gold
Another rising Nollywood star actor who left unexpectedly in the prime of youth was Ezeora Nelson Oluchukwu but popularly referred to as Nelson Gold. He died while on a set filming a movie. Nelson Gold was not only a brilliant actor, but also a screen writer and a good story teller. His style and concept of interpreting movie roles have drawn a lot of fans to him. But unfortunately, the actor slipped into a coma and died at the age of 26 years old while on a movie set. Ezeora Nelson Oluchukwu has featured in several blockbuster movies in Nigeria and known for playing the role of a royal prince.
4. Clem Onyeka
Clem Onyeka is a talented Nollywood actor. He was in the process of becoming a top Nollywood actor until he passed away unto after life. He was shot by a stray bullet on 14th October 2014 in a crossfire clash between Nigerian police force and armed robbers in Asaba, Delta State. Due to the incident, all banks operating in Asaba closed down operation during the cross-fire between operatives of Delta State Police force, military men and men of the underworld who attempted to hijack a bullion van containing billions of naira. Clem Onyeka who was just 37 years old at that time was shot along Summit Express, Asaba, Delta State while police and armed robbers engaged in a fierce gun battle.
5. Harley Akpo
Nollywood actor Harley Akpo died in 2019 while on a movie set. Harley Akpo was not just an actor; he was also a movie director and a script writer. He died in a swimming pool in Asaba, Delta State in the south southern part of Nigeria while filming on a movie location. His death was reported by sun newspaper in 2019 and the report stated that he was in a movie location in Asaba, Delta State shooting a movie with other crew members when he fell into the pool and died. Harley Akpo died due to his lack of swimming skill. He died in a swimming pool after been drown in water.
6. J.T Tom West
J.T Tom West is a Nollywood actor who died mysteriously in a car accident on 28th September 2006 in Lagos, Nigeria in a ghastly motor accident while filming an action thriller movie. The talented actor during his days in Nollywood was described as one of the most rugged actors in Nigeria due to his role in action thriller movies. J.T Tom West died since 2006. He was buried and honored by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) as an Icon and a legend in Nollywood. He died on his way back home from a movie location and his death was mysterious and tragic.
7. Dede One Day
Dede One Day is a Nollywood legendary comic actor who has been described as the best and most decorated and talent comic actor in Nigeria and a master of ceremony. Dede One Day whose real name is Peter Onwuzurike Onyehidelam is one of Nigerian best comic actor known for his hilarious comedy movies, shows, events and audio tape. He was born and raised in Aba, a small town in Abia State in the south eastern part of Nigeria. Dede One Day is originally from Umuagwuru Mbieri, a small village in Imo State in the south eastern part of Nigeria. Unfortunately, on 14th December 2015, Dede One Day died after he slumped while performing at an event in Aba, Abia State in the south eastern part of Nigeria. It was later discovered that Dede One Day tragic death was caused by complications of hypertension and high blood pressure.
