Ama Konadu Abebrese popularly known as Ama K. Abebrese is an award winning British/Ghanaian actress, model, television presenter, film producer, television personality and a philanthropist. She acts mostly in action and romantic movies alongside with Majid Michel, Prince David Osei, John Dumelo, Martha Ankomah, Yvonne Nelson, Jackie Appiah, Nadia Buari, Juliet Ibrahim and other top Ghanaian celebrities.
She was born on 3rd May 1980 in Kumasi, Ghana. She is currently 38 years old. She is very beautiful, gifted, skillful, created and talented in acting and interpretation of movie roles. She knows how to interpret her roles very well and can fit in any character given to her by movie directors and producers in Ghana and Nigeria respectively.
She was born in Ghana and raised in West London in the United Kingdom. She won the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2011 for her stellar performance in Sinking Sands. Ama K. Abebrese attended Williams Morris Sixth Form School in Hammersmith, London, United Kingdom and obtained her First School Leaving Certificate. After completing her primary school education, she proceeded to Burlington Danes Academy in London, United Kingdom and obtained her Senior School Certificate. After completing her secondary school education, Ama K. Abebrese proceeded to St Mary’s University in Twickkenham, London, United Kingdom and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Arts and Drama.
Ama K. Abebrese started her training at Youth Culture Television (YCTV) in London, an organization started by Sabrina Guinness on the TV show “Challenge Anneka”. She was a presenter on BBC2 youth show “Pass da Mic” and a guest presenter on the English File educational series. She developed a love for acting after joining the Lyric Theatre Summer Company as a youth.
Ama K. Abebrese was a regular TV presenter on the now defunct OBE TV in London, hosting and producing several shows including One Touch and the entertainment chat show “On The Sofa” where guests she has interviewed range from international artists like Akon, Ziggy Marley, Harrison Ford, Ne-Yo, Rihanna, and Hollywood movie director George Lucas, among other notable personalities.
Her film credits include the international multiple award-winning film “Sinking Sands” which was directed by 2011 BAFTA LA and Pan African Film Festival prize winner Leila Djansi. The film “Sinking Sands” received 12 nominations at the 2010 Ghana Movie Awards, including Best Actress in a Leading Role. The film also won four awards, including Best Film of the Year.
Ama K. Abebrese has starred and co-produced the movie “Double-Cross” which won her two awards such as Best Cinematography of the Year and Best Hair and Makeup of the Year at the 2015 Ghana Movie Awards. She is the former Head of Own Productions at Viasat 1 television station in Ghana. She was the host of “A Day” in the Life TV show which aired on Viasat 1. She also co hosted New Dayon TV3 weekday mornings.
In 2013, Ama K. Abebrese alongside with Nollywood actress Dakore Egbuson and Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun (AY) hosted the 2013 edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
Ama K. Abebrese is the founder of the “I Love My Natural Skintone. Say No to Skin Bleaching” campaign, which she launched in 2014. The program seeks to address issues of colorism and encourage Africans and people of color to embrace their natural skin tones and resist from the often harmful practice of skin bleaching. The focus is mostly on females to appreciate their different and unique skin tones, with the assertion that beauty comes in all different shades.
Ama K. Abebrese is a “Child Safety Icon” for the charity SafeChild Ghana, an organization whose primary goal is to keep the children safe from harm. In 2014, she was unveiled as Dark and Lovely’s Brand Ambassador for Ghana. Some of the movies she has acted include Beasts of No Nation, The Cursed Ones, The Burial of Kojo, Lotanna, Interception, Double-Cross, Sinking Sand, Ties that Bind, London Get Problem, etc.
