The terrorists who kidnapped the Abuja-Kaduna AK9 train passengers have given the federal government a 24-hour ultimatum to meet their ransom demands for the release of the remaining 51 persons in their captivity, or else they will start killing them. This is according to a report in the Vanguard newspaper.
The terrorist’s message, which was in an audio format, was circulated widely on social media yesterday. In it, one of the terrorists could be heard issuing the threat to slaughter the abductees because the government failed to seek their release.
The threat is coming even as families and friends of the captives staged a peaceful protest in Kaduna yesterday to urge the government to secure the release of the captives. Meanwhile, according to the report, an Islamic cleric, Malam Tukur Mamu, who has been leading the negotiation for the release of the kidnap victims, has confirmed the authenticity of the audio in circulation. Mamu is the spokesperson for the renowned controversial Islamic scholar, Sheikh Gumi.
Yesterday made it 100 days since terrorists attacked the Kaduna-bound train and abducted 62 passengers. 11 of the captives were later released following negotiations spearheaded by Mamu.
