Yemi Eberechi Alade popularly known as Yemi Alade is a famous Nigerian Afro pop singer, songwriter, vocalist, recording artiste, stage performer, model and a philanthropist. She was born on 13th March 1989 in Abia State in the south eastern part of Nigeria, but grew up in Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria. She is currently 28 years old.
Her father’s name is James Alade, he is from Yoruba origin while her mother’s name is Helen Uzoma, she is from Igbo origin. According to her, this combination of two ethnic origins makes her a complete Nigerian. Yemi Alade is the fifth child out of the seven children in her family and she is very talented among the rest.
Yemi Alade attended St Saviour British Primary School in Lagos, Nigeria and obtained her First School Leaving Certificate. After her primary school education, Yemi Alade proceeded to Victory Grammar School in Lagos, Nigeria and obtained her West African Senior School Certificate.
After completing her primary and secondary school education, Yemi Alade proceeded to Federal University of Lagos and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography.
In 2009, Yemi Alade began her music career. She came into limelight after winning the Peak Talent Hunt Show competition held in 2009 and became a public figure after releasing her first hit single “Johnny” produced by Sele Bobo.
In 2012 she signed a contract with a music record label known as “Effyzzie Music Group” and released her single “Ghen Ghen Love” produced by Sele Bobo.
On March 2014 she became highly famous after her hit single “Johnny” broke the internet with 16 million views on YouTube. On November 2017 her hit single “Johnny” rose to 75 million views on YouTube making it the most popular video on the internet by a female African entertainer.
Yemi Alade has featured on the covers of trending magazines and has performed in different shows and events around the world alongside with Iyanya, Flavour, Banky W, Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Sheyi Shay and Sele Bobo her music producer.
In 2014, Yemi Alade joined MI, Waje, Timi Dakolo and Burna Boy on the UNESCO World Book Capital 2014 theme song for the Port Harcourt World Book Capital, a project urging the new generation to read hard and stay in school.
On 2nd October 2014, Yemi Alade released her first debut studio album “King of Queens” with hits singles like Johnny, Tangerine, and Ghen Ghen Love. Yemi Alade has won so many awards which include Most Promising Act to Watch at the Nigeria Music Video Awards, Best Pop Single and Song of the Year at the Headies Awards and Best Female Entertainer of the Year at the MTV Awards.
Yemi Alade is currently one of the richest and most influential female artiste in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $4.2 million.
