John Okafor popularly known as Mr. Ibu is a Nollywood famous actor and a comedian. He was born on 17th October 1961. He is currently 56 years old. He was born and raised in Enugu in the south eastern part of Nigeria. He had a rough and terrible childhood because he came from a poor family.
His family is among the Poorest in Enugu State. He once worked as a firewood seller, a hair dresser and a meat butcher to feed his family. His acting career began on 3rd December 1978 when he joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) and started first as Continuity because movie directors and producers then have not recognized his talent in acting. However, few years later John Okafor started appearing in movies and television soap opera.
He came into limelight in 2004 after featuring in the blockbuster movie “Mr. Ibu” which gave him the popular nick name Mr Ibu. The movie “Mr. Ibu” which he acted alongside with Osita Iheme (Pawpaw) gives him an award as Best Comic Actor in Nigeria at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
According to him, he had to trek from Ajao Estate to Festac Town in Lagos State for movie Auditions and rehearsals on a daily basis. He is considered to be one of Nigeria’s most talented comic characters. He is currently married with beautiful children.
His humorous acting is often characterized by stupidity, hilarious imbecility and a sharp disconnection from reality. John Okafor has acted in more than 200 Nollywood movies which include Mr. Ibu, Mr Ibu in London, Police Recruit, 9 Wives, Ibu in Prison, Keziah, etc.
He has won several African Movie Awards such as Best Comic Actor in Nigeria at the African Movie Academy Awards and Most Prominent Actor in Nigeria at the African Magic Viewer Choice Awards.
In 2014, John Okafor signed an endorsement deal with MerryBet worth millions of naira, after which he signed another endorsement deal with GOTV worth millions of naira.
John Okafor is currently one of the richest and most influential actor in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $4.2 million.
