Samuel Dedetoku popularly known as Sam Dede is a legendary Nollywood actor, director, producer, politician, lecturer and a philanthropist. He was born on 17th November 1965 in Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria. He is currently 51 years old. He is a native of Okrika, a small village in Rivers State, in the south southern part of Nigeria but grew up in Lagos, Nigeria.
After his primary and secondary school education, Sam Dede proceeded to University of Port Harcourt in River State and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts. After his National Youth Service (NYSC), Sam Dede came back to University of Port Harcourt and obtained his Masters Degree in Theatre Arts.
Sam Dede is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Port-Harcourt in River State where lectures in the Department of Theatre Arts. He is one of the pioneers of the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood), he has been in the industry for over 20 years and has acted in more than 250 Nollywood movies which include Isakaba, Igodo, Mission to Nowhere, Darkest Night, War Front, The President must Not Die, Ebube, Lion King, etc.
In 2005, Sam Dede won the African Movie Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He has also won the award for Most Prominent Actor in Nigeria at the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
In 2012, Sam Dede was appointed by the River State Governor as the Director-General of the Rivers State Tourism Development. Sam Dede is one of the most gifted actors in Nollywood. He is one of the most talented actors in Nigeria. He is very talented in acting and interpretation of roles. He has won many movie awards and recognitions both in Nigeria and abroad. Sam Dede is currently married with many beautiful children and is currently based in Port Harcourt, River State in the south southern part of Nigeria with his family, where he combined both his lecturing job and movie acting together to support his family.
