Tony Umez is a famous Nollywood actor, producer, director, television personality and a philanthropist. He is known for his romantic roles in movies and has been referred to as Nollywood lover boy. He was born on 23^rd August 1964 in Ogidi, Anambra State in the south eastern part of Nigeria.

He is currently 53 years old. His father is from Ogidi in Anambra State in the south eastern part of Nigeria while his mother is from Cross River State in the south southern part of Nigeria.

He is very handsome, creative, gifted, skillful and talented in acting and interpretation of movie roles. He knows how to interpret his roles very well and can fit in any character given to him by a movie director. However, he acts mostly on romantic roles in movies.

Tony Umez completed both his primary and secondary school education in Lagos State in the western part of Nigeria and obtained both his First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate. He started acting right from his secondary school days and performed on stage play and drama.

After completing his secondary school education, Tony Umez proceeded to University of Lagos and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language. After obtaining his first degree, Tony Umez went back to University of Lagos and obtained a Master’s Degree in International Law and Diplomacy.

In 1993, Tony Umez joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) and started featuring in Nollywood movies. In 1994, Tony Umez rose to fame after starring in the Nollywood blockbuster movie “Died Wretched” a movie that brought him to limelight and gave him a nomination for Best New Act to Watch at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. In the movie he was buried in a Casket worth N2.3 million.

Tony Umez has acted in more than 250 Nollywood movies which include Died Wretched, Billionaires Club, The Preacher’s Wife, Blood Sisters, Occultic Kingdom, The Coven, Stranger on my Bed, A Second Time, Fire on the Mountain, Dirty Demand, Living with the Devil, etc.  

In 1999, Tony Umez got married to his beautiful wife Patsy Ogochukwu, a lady he met on a movie set. The marriage is currently blessed with four lovely children namely Beautiful Umez, Angel Umez, Princess Umez and Golden-Michelle Umez.

In 2013, Tony Umez lost his mother and therefore announced the death of his mother through his Facebook post. In 2014, Tony Umez was heavily criticized for featuring in the soft-pornographic movie titled “Room 027” which was disliked by his fans. However, during an interview with the media, he confessed that he regret ever accepting such role.

Tony Umez in the cause of his acting career has won several awards which include Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, Nollywood Most Prominent Actor in Nigeria at the City People Entertainment Awards, Best Actor in Nigeria at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, Best Actor at the City People Entertainment Awards and Most Promising Actor in Nigeria at the Golden Icon Movie Academy Awards.
