The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State. The returning officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi announced the final result at about 1:50 Am on Wednesday morning 10th November 2021.
Prof. Florence Obi announce the result after adding the figures garnered by each of the political parties in the Tuesday supplementary polls to those already declared on Sunday from the 20 Local Government Areas of the state. She announced the votes polled by the political parties as follows; APC, 43,285, APGA, 112, 229, PDP, 53,807, amongst others.
She also announced the total number of valid votes in the election as; 241,523, rejected votes stood at 8,108, while the total vote cast in the election was given as 249,631.
Prof. Florence Obi said; “This is the moment we have been waiting for. I want to use this opportunity to thank the chairman of INEC and his team for this opportunity given to me and my university to partake in this Anambra 2021 Governorship election. I thank the service chiefs, the people of Anambra State, we remain very grateful.
“Allow me to read this form EC8E, which I have completed. I Prof Florence Banku Obi hereby certify that I am the returning officer of the Anambra governorship election held on the 6th and 9th of November 2021.
“That Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo of APGA, having certified the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner of the 2021 Anambra state governorship election,” Prof. Florence Obi stated.
Former chairman of APGA, Senator Victor Umeh while reacting to the victory said the election was transparent, and is the best election so far held in the state.
According to his words; “We have again won the state, despite the fact that some people boasted that they will win the state. This is to tell them that APGA is on ground, and it is not just about boasting of winning, but doing your homework well. I urge them to concede victory to our party and the candidate, because the people made a clear choice,” he stated.
Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was declared winner of the Anambra Governorship election held on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Soludo is not new in the system, he is a national figure known by all and has played prominent roles in national development.
Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo is currently 61 years old, having been born on 28th February, 1960. He was the chairman of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). On 29th May, 2004, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo was named governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Soludo is a Nigerian Professors of Economics. He has been a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund, the University of Cambridge, the Brookings Institution, the University of Warwick, and the University of Oxford as well as a visiting professor at Swarthmore College in the United States of America.
He obtained his three degrees and then professorship at the University of Nigeria Nsukka in Enugu State. Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo graduated with a First Class Honours degree in 1984, a Masters degree in Economics in 1987, and a Ph.D in 1989, winning prizes for the best student at all three levels.
He was appointed to the position of professor of economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1998. Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo held the positions of Chief Economic Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Chief Executive of the National Planning Commission of Nigeria.
On 16th September, 2019, the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, appointed Soludo as a member of a newly formed 8-member Economic Advisory Council which would report directly to the President. He announced his aspiration to become Anambra Governor in September 2009, he contested under PDP and lost the election to Peter Obi of APGA.
In February 2021, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo officially declared his intention to run for the position of Governor of Anambra State under the banner of APGA. Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo has six children. He was declared winner and Anambra Governor-elect by INEC on Wednesday, November 10, 2021.
However, Prof. Charles Soludo, the winner of Anambra Governorship election from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has reacted to his victory at the poll. In his acceptance speech few minutes after he was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Wednesday, 10th November 2021, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo said he would be the chief servant of all Anambra people.
He said he accepted the outcome of the election and his emergency as governor-elect of Anambra State. According to his words; “I accept the outcome of the election. To God be the glory. We are humbled by massive support of Nigerians and the whole country. I will work hard every day and I will never disappoint you,” he said, while Commiserating with those who died in the course of the poll.
Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo said the election was most peaceful and congratulated those who contested in the election with him. According to his words; “We are one, I extend hand of fellowship to you, let us come together to build Anambra. Let us keep the spirit of Anambra flying.
“My role will be that of a chief servant, I will work every day with you. I will work in collaboration with other states and the Federal Government,” he stated.
