Breaking: Nollywood Actress Ada Ameh Has Passed Away

Popular Nigerian comic Actress, Ada Ameh has been confirmed dead after she reportedly slumped and was rushed to a hospital in Delta state on Sunday, July 17, 2022. She was said to have been a guest of an oil company’s topshot alongside with her family when she suddenly slumped during a gathering. The actress shared a video of her eating with the family around 12:53pm on Sunday afternoon on her official Instagram page, hours before she died.

Reports have it that the renowned actress collapsed and was rushed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)’s hospital in Warri, Delta state, where she was pronounced dead. The popular actress suffered an immense mental breakdown following the demise of her only child in 2020. She recently cried out on social media about her battle with mental condition that was killing her slowly.

The actress rose to prominence after her role as Anita in the popular Nollywood movie Domitilla in 1996. She is also popularly known for her role as Emu in the comic television series The Johnsons. Recall that, Ada Ameh lost her only child back then in October 2020 during the EndSars protest. Up until her death, the actress mentioned that she was battling a mental illness. She was 48 years old when she died.

According to reports from our reliable source, Ada Ameh struggled with her emotions in the video she shared online, but put up a brave front as she explained how a lawsuit was filed against her by people who offered her a job she could not carry out.

According to her, she could not do the job because she was battling mental health issues. Ada Ameh added that dealing with the challenges was killing her slowly, but she believed she would get over it.

Her last post on Instagram was a video of Ada Ameh eating with some family members at 12:53 PM. She captioned the video saying; “Happy new week fams ❤️❤️ . This trip for my friends elder sister, is just an enjoyment gallow!!! Thanks my darling sister phil❤️❤️ I really enjoyed myself!! God bless my love ❤️❤️
May her dreams come true in Jesus name, Amen 🙏 🙏 🙏”

Ada Ameh is a famous Nollywood actress, comedian, producer and a television personality. She is very gifted, skillful, creative and talented in acting and interpretation of movie roles. She knows how to interpret her roles very well and can fit in any character given to her by movie directors and producers in Nigeria.

Ada Ameh was born and raised at the Naval Barracks on Malu (Mobil) road in Ajegunle, Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria, where she completed both her primary and secondary school education, and obtained both her First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate. She is a native of Idoma in Benue State, Nigeria.

In 1995, she joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) and rose to fame in 1996 after playing the role of Anita who acted as a greenhorn in the Nollywood blockbuster movie “Domitila” a movie produced and directed by Zeb Ejiro. The movie “Domitila” brought her to limelight and gave her a lot of advantage in Nollywood.

In 2003, she acted in the Nollywood blockbuster hilarious movie “Aki na Ukwa” alongside with Chinedu Ikedieze, Osita Iheme and Amaechi Muonagor, where she played the role of Gladys. In 2016, she starred in the popular television series “The Johnson” which is currently running on DSTV.

According to her; it was Zeb Ejiro that discovered my talent. He met me and we got talking. He saw something that I didn’t see in me. I didn’t know I had such talent. All my life, if you ask me, I would say I was going to be a medical doctor or a singer. So Zeb Ejiro saw something in me and when the movie Domitila was to be shot, he said he had somebody who he wanted to play the role of Anita. They looked for me and they found me. It was not the era of GSM. Anyway, they got me; I was a greenhorn, very green. But people like Pat Okiri and Basorge taught me how to interpret a script. That was how it all started.

Ada Ameh speaks Idoma, Ibibio and Yoruba very fluently and also speaks a little of Igbo language. Ada Ameh has acted in more than 100 Nollywood movies which include Domitila, Aki na Ukwa, Ghana Must Go, 30 Days in Atlanta, True Love My Foot, The Johnsons, Blood Money, Atlas, Phone Swap, etc. She always plays the role of a mother and sometimes acts like a comedian in several Nollywood movies alongside with top Nollywood celebrities.

She gave birth to her daughter at a very young age of 14 years old when she was still in secondary school. She is popularly known for playing comic roles in several Nollywood movies. However, Ada Ameh is still single, but has a grown up daughter whom she gave birth to at the age of 14 and out of wedlock. In 2017, she was conferred a chieftaincy title in her hometown of Idoma in Benue State, Nigeria, for her contribution to the community development.

Ada Ameh in the cause of her career as an actress has been nominated for few awards which include Best Comic Act to Watch at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, Most Promising Actress in Nigeria at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards and Best Actress in Comedy at the City People Entertainment Awards. Unfortunately, on Sunday, July 17, 2022, she passed away after battling with mental illness for the two years. She started having the mental illness after the loss of her only daughter in October 2020. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
