For the past five months the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). This was after he was rearrested by the federal government in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria to face the charges leveled against him. As the IPOB leader awaits his fate in court, the secessionist group has not failed to seek for ways to ensure Nnamdi Kanu comes out free.
Over the past few months, IPOB has tried different strategies including sit-at-home orders in a bid to fight for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu but to no avail. As Nnamdi Kanu remains in custody, IPOB has once again made a strong allegation against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government. IPOB alleged that Buhari government wants to kill Nnamdi Kanu and declare state of emergency in the south east.
On Friday IPOB in a new statement alleged that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is plotting to kill Nnamdi Kanu. The group made the allegations in a statement by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful. According to IPOB; “By the time the present government allegedly kills the IPOB leader, it will proceed to declare a state of emergency in all the five states that make up the South-East region.
“We the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by our great liberator and prophet Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to alert Biafrans and the entire world about the plans by the wicked and oppressive Fulani-controlled federal government of Nigeria to eliminate our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu; and declare the State of Emergency in the entire South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria. This plan is real and must be taken very serious by everybody,” IPOB’s statement concluded.
IPOB also noted that the federal government is allegedly planning to kill their leader because it is not comfortable with the international attention that Nnamdi Kanu’s rendition has received. According to IPOB, the present administration is also doing this because of the fate that awaits her at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The statement adds; “The Nigeria government is further aggrieved by the humiliating defeat it suffered at the just-concluded November 6 Anambra State governorship election which the federal government believes was made possible by our wisdom to cancel our earlier declared one-week sit-at-home order. Our action was considered the masterstroke that shattered their plans to manipulate the outcome of the poll in the eventuality that people did not come out to vote.
“Disturbed by the legendary role of our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in raising the consciousness of not only Biafrans but other Indigenous nationalities about the fraud called NIGERIA, and so the Fulani cabal who are the beneficiaries of this fraud are bent on eliminating him at all cost. They want to reward him with death and damn the consequences. They want to kill him in DSS custody,” the statement concluded.
The group further used the opportunity to call on the United Nation, the European Union and the global community to take note of this physical and psychological torture being meted on Nnamdi Kanu by the DSS and hold NIGERIA responsible should anything happen to their leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The statement added; “This matter is so serious that we want all Biafrans to be vigilant. Nigerian government should know that nothing should happen to our leader. We therefore, urge Biafran women to be prepared for the battle ahead. Militarization of Biafraland must cease and we demand a date for a referendum for the Biafran people to decide their destiny.
“While Fulani bandits, Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists have taken over the control of a number of territories in the North, yet there is a fewer military presence there when compared with the anomaly of military checkpoints after every pole in Biafraland which unleash pain and agony upon our people. Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must be released unconditionally.
“Politicians, elders and religious leaders in our region who were pleading with IPOB to calm down should know that if anything happens to our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, things won’t remain the same again for everybody! If truly they are committed to peace they should impress upon the Nigerian government that the only solution to Nigeria’s problem is the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu now to avoid the unimaginable!” the statement concluded.
It is important to note that this is not the first time IPOB is accusing the Buhari-led government of trying to kill. In October 2021, IPOB in a similar fashion said there is an alleged plot to eliminate the lead counsels of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful who also made the allegations in a press statement alleged that the Federal Government intends to do its dirty job under the guise of Operation Golden Dawn. The statement read; “We wish to put the whole world on notice about the wicked plot by the frustrated government of Nigeria to secretly eliminate our resilient lawyers, Ifeanyi Ejiofor and Aloy Ejimakor, over their committed efforts in the defence of our leader.
“The Nigerian government is not happy with the expertise and professional prowess of these veteran lawyers and other members of the legal team to deflate the fabricated charges leveled against our leader, hence, their plot to eliminate them.
“Intelligence report at our disposal also indicates that this covert plan extends to the elimination of Mazi Benjamin Madubugwu, Bright Ishinwa, Chidiebere Onwudiwe and David Nwawuisi. Several state coordinators are also on their elimination list, handed down by the Nigerian government to its security agencies.
“The Nigerian government intends to carry out this targeted elimination through the security personnel deployed in the South-East under the guise of Operation Golden Dawn to do the dirty job. The compromised security agents have decided to eliminate Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers once they step foot into any part of the South-East.
“The world should hold Nigeria Government responsible should anything happen to our lawyers and any of those listed above. This is not the first time such evil plot would be hatched against them as Barr Ifeanyi Ejiofor has severally escaped assassination attempts on his life by these same Nigerian security operatives. His attackers had twice set his home on fire. The world must take note and pay attention to the atrocities being committed in Biafra land by the Nigerian government,” the statement concluded. 
Meanwhile Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has weighed in on rumours alleging a plot to assassinate the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. In a statement sent to our reliable source on Friday afternoon, signed by its secretary-general, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group disclosed that if Nnamdi Kanu dies in custody it will be the End of Nigeria.
The group also hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for meeting Igbo leaders in Aso-rock today led by Chief Mbazulike Amaechi. The statement read in part; “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for initiating a dialogue with neutral Igbo leaders led by Pa Mbazulike Amaechi without any southeast politicians’ usual manipulative infusions.”
Attempts to assassinate Nnamdi Kanu will end up Nigeria and the Federal Government knows the consequences of hurting a British citizen in their custody, such stories of assassination attempts is a ruse and will likely lead to creating disaffection to the already sealed deal between the Federal Government and Igbo leaders to put procedures for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.”
“Southeast political leaders should face the consequences of their leadership failure in the south east over the years, IPOB should query where there are no available hospitals, schools in the rural areas of the southeast, this is the new narrative to move and it will make southeast political leaders face developmental projects rather than siphoning the wealth of the people”.
