Bukola Saraki Biography and Net Worth

Abubakar Bukola Saraki popularly known as Bukola Saraki is a famous Nigerian politician, medical doctor, investor, entrepreneur and humanitarian, who currently served as the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was born on 19th December 1962 in Kwara State in the south western part of Nigeria. He is currently 55 years old.

He was born into the family of Senator Olusola Saraki and Mrs. Florence Morenike Saraki. His father was a former senator in Nigeria from 1979 to 1983 and also a one-time Senate Leader of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Bukola Saraki completed his primary school education in Kwara State in the south western part of Nigeria and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. After completing his primary school education, in 1973 Bukola Saraki proceeded to King’s College in Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria and obtained his West African Senior School Certificate in 1978.

After completing his secondary school education in Lagos, Bukola Saraki proceeded Cheltenham College in the United Kingdom from 1978 to 1981 for his College and High School Certificate. After which he proceeded to University of London in United Kingdom and obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery. After that, he studied at the London Hospital Medical College of the University of London in United Kingdom and obtained his M.B.B.S.

After graduating from the University, Bukola Saraki worked as a medical officer at Rush Green Hospital, Essex in the United Kingdom from 1988 to 1989. After which he worked as a director of Societe Generale Bank Nigeria Limited from 1990 to 2000.

In 2000, President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him as a Special Assistant to the President on Budget. During his tenure as the Special Assistant to the President, Bukola Saraki initiated the Fiscal Responsibility Bill. Bukola Saraki also served on the Economic Policy Coordination Committee, where he was responsible for the formulation and implementation of several key economic policies for Nigeria.

Bukola Saraki was a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and has recently defected to People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He was the governor of Kwara State from 2003 to 2011 and became the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after the March 2015 general elections.

He was first elected to the Senate in April 2011 under the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing the Kwara Central Senatorial District and also re-elected in the March 2015 general election as the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He has currently decamped from All Progressive Congress (APC) to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on 31st July 2018.

His decamping from the ruling party has created a lot of controversy in Nigeria. As many people are against his decamping and others suggest he should resign from his seat as the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Bukola Saraki is currently married to Toyin Saraki and the marriage is currently blessed with four children. Bukola Saraki was made the Turaki of the Fula emirate of Ilorin. A Turaki is an officer at court in the Hausa-Fulani kingdoms. He is currently elevated to the position of “Wazirin Gari” (traditional Prime minister) of the Fula emirate of Ilorin by the Emir of Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria.

In November 2017, an investigation conducted by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalism cited his name in the list of politicians named in “Paradise Papers” allegation.

Bukola Saraki in the cause of his career as a politician has won numerous awards. He was the first serving Nigerian governor to be awarded the National Honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in 2010. On 27th May 2017, Outstanding Leadership Awards was conferred on Bukola Saraki by the current Governor of Kwara State, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for his service to the nation.

Bukola Saraki is currently one of the richest and most influential personality and public figure in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $8 million.
