Nigeria super eagles were brutally defeated by Croatia with 2 goals to nil at the 2018 FIFA world cup in the group D opener on Saturday, 6th June 2018. The first goal came in the first half of the game while the second goal came in the second half of the match. Nigeria super eagles striker Alex Iwobi was substituted in the second half of the game while Ahmed Musa replaced him in the game.
Few minutes to the end of the game, Nigeria super eagles captain John Mikel Obi was substituted. However, there have been huge reactions on Twitter concerning the game between Nigeria and Croatia. Some tweets where mocking Nigerians super eagle players saying that jerseys don’t win matches.
After a slow start to the game, Croatia took the lead through an own goal by Oghenekaro Etebo who put the ball past Francis Uzoho. Croatia sealed the result when Luka Modric converted a penalty after Mario Mandzukic was brought down by William Troost Ekong. The defeat on Nigeria was a big injury to Nigeria super eagles head coach Gernot Rohr, who was left with no other choice but to substitute super eagles captain John Mikel Obi just few minutes to the end of the game.

However, Nigerians have decided to put all the blame on Nigeria super eagles head coach Gernot Rohr as Croatia trashed the super eagles of Nigeria 2-0 in the group D stage of the 2018 FIFA world cup in Russia, stating that he didn’t prepare the boys very well for the world cup.
Nigeria super eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr was among the trends on Twitter following the Super Eagles defeat to Croatia. Nigerians were not impressed at all with the selection and substitutions of the German tactician following the game.
Reacting to the game a fan stated that super eagles head coach Gernot Rohr actually waited till the 88th minute before substituting Mikel Obi. According to the fan, he stated that even his 6 years old son knows that Mikel Obi should have been sent off the pitch ages ago. According to him, super eagles head coach Gernot Rohr is responsible for the loss of the game and that his tactics and substitutions in the game were all wrong.
Another fan also stated that everybody knows where Mikel Obi should be playing except Gernot Rohr. And he is the one they pay to know these things. Another fan also stated that Gernot Rohr is a fraud and that he can’t even coach and there were no visible formation in the game.
Before the start of the game, the Nigeria super eagles arrived Russia in style and were awarded winners of the fashion world cup. But following defeat by Croatia, some Twitter users expressed concerns about the Nigeria super eagle’s team and stressing that the team is too focused on taking pictures rather than preparing for the games.

One of the Twitter user stated that there must be a permanent ban to Photo Shot. He stressed that the team were busy taking photos instead of training and preparing for the world cup. He further stated that his message must get to the super eagles head coach Gernot Rohr by all means.
Nigeria super eagles captain Mikel Obi and forward striker Odion Ighalo were both trolled on Twitter following their performance in the 2-0 defeat by Croatia. A fan stated that Odion Ighalo and Mikel Obi played rubbish in the game. On Mikel Obi’s performance, another fan stated that Mikel Obi is a big liability to Nigeria and that he should have been substituted long time ago.
He stated that Alex Iwobi shouldn’t have been sent off on substitution and that the first substitute should have been on Mikel Obi. He further stated that Kelechi Iheanacho shouldn’t have start the match and that Gernot Rohr should have kept him till the second half so that he can charge the players.
On Ighalo’s failure in front of goal, another fan stated that super eagles number 9, Odion Ighalo doesn’t know how to score goal. Another fan stated that Odion Ighalo is pregnant that is why he cannot run.

However, the match ended in 2-0 and Croatia was hailed as the winner. The Nigeria super eagles will hope to bounce back against Iceland while Croatia takes on Argentina in their next fixture.
