Sidney Onoriode Esiri popularly known by his stage name as Dr Sid is a singer, songwriter, recording artiste, stage performer, dentist, entrepreneur and a philanthropist. He was born on 1st May 1980 in Ikeja, Lagos in the south western part of Nigeria. He is currently 37 years old.
Dr Sid is a native of Urhobo in Delta State in the south southern part of Nigeria but grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. Dr Sid is born into an entertainment family. His mother is a successful fashion designer and his father is the legendary Nollywood actor, late Justus Esiri, who died few years ago due to kidney failure.
Dr Sid is the second child in the family of 4 children. Right from a very tender age, Dr Sid had the passion of becoming an entertainer. After completing his primary school education and obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate, Dr Sid proceeded to Nigerian Air force Secondary School in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria and obtained his West African Senior School Certificate.
After completing his primary and secondary school education, Dr Sid proceeded to University of Ibadan in Oyo State, Nigeria and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Surgery. During his school days his flair for entertainment could not be hidden as he took part in several school plays, dance competitions and concerts winning numerous awards and prizes along the way.
In 1999, Dr Sid signed a record deal contract with Trybe Records Label and worked as a choreographer, backup singer and dancer. In 2002, Dr Sid got his chance in front of the mic, when he was made a member of “Da Trybe” and given a spot on the song that caused a revolution in Nigerian Hip-hip “OYA” in 2002 alongside with Sasha, 2-Shotz and Timi.
In 2004, Dr Sid became a qualified Dentist after completing his studies in University of Ibadan. He moved to the United Kingdom and started working with the likes of JJC and the 419 squad, Felix Duke, KAS, R70 and D Banj.
Dr Sid later returned to Nigeria and spent a year working at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. After which he went on to serve his country at Yola in Adamawa State in the northern part of Nigeria for his one year national service (NYSC). Before taking music fulltime, Dr Sid has worked in various dental clinics combining both his dentistry profession and music career together. He later quit his job as a dentist and focus full time on his music career.
In 2005, Dr Sid was nominated as Best New Act at the 2005 Amen Awards. That same year in 2005, he started recording a studio album titled “Prognosis” which featured the single like “Raise Da roof”. He later abandoned the album in 2006.
After practicing as a dentist for 3 years, Dr Sid took a tough decision to quit practicing as a dentist and concentrated fully on his music career after signing a record deal contract with Mo’ Hits Records which is owned by Don Jazzy and records the Mo’ Hits Allstars collective album “Curriculim Vitae” which was released in December 2007.
In 2004, Dr. Sid released his first studio album “The Big Picture”. In 2007, Dr. Sid released his second studio album “Curriculum Vitae”. In 2010, Dr. Sid released his third studio album “Turning Point”. In 2012, Dr. Sid released his fourth studio album “Solar Plexus”. In 2013, Dr. Sid released his fifth studio album “Siduction”.
Following a fall out of the partnership at Mo’ Hits Records by Don Jazzy and D Banj, Dr. Sid has since be signed on to Don Jazzy Mavin Records. In 2014, Dr. Sid starred in Moses Inwang movie “The Last 3 Digits” where he played the role of an NYSC corp member and a friend to Nollywood actor Nonso Diobi in the movie. The movie is packed with so many action and intrigues. The movie won the People’s Film Festival’s Best International Film award in Paris, France.
In 2008, Dr Sid won the award for Fresh Video at the Soundcity Music Video Awards. In 2009, Dr Sid won the award for Best Afro Hip-hop Video at the Nigerian Music Video Awards. In 2011, Dr Sid won the award for Hip-hop World Revelation of the Year at the Hip-hop World Awards. In 2011, Dr Sid won the award for Best Pop Single at the Hip-hop World Awards. In 2014, Dr Sid won the award for Best Collaboration at the City People Entertainment Awards.
Dr Sid is currently one of the richest and most influential artiste in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $6 million.
