Eedris Turayo Abdulkareem Ajenifuja popularly known as Eedris Abdulkareem is a famous Nigerian hip hop singer, songwriter, stage performer, recording artist and a hip hop rapper. He is popularly known as Mr. Remedy. He is very gifted, skillful, creative and talented. He was born and bred in Kano State in the northern part of Nigeria.
He was born to a polygamous family in Kano State in the northern part of Nigeria, where he completed both his primary, secondary and tertiary education and obtained both his First School Leaving Certificate, West African Senior School Certificate and Bachelor’s Degree. His mother is from Ogun State while his father is from Ilesha, Osun State both in the south western part of Nigeria. He was born and raised in Kano State in the northern part of Nigeria and decided to adopt Kano State as his state of origin.
In 1996, Eedris Abdulkareem started his music career as a hip hop rapper. He was signed to Kennis Music record label alongside with 2Face Idibia. He rap mostly in Pidgin English and is popularly known for criticizing the Nigerian government with his music due to the high rate of corruption in Nigeria.
During the regime of President Olusegeun Obasanjo, many of his hit singles where ban from broadcasting on radio and television stations in Nigeria due to the fact that his music focuses mostly on attacking and criticizing the Nigerian government.
Eedris Abdulkareem lost his father when he just was 2 years old and 8 of his brothers as well. He performed with hip-hop band popularly known as “The Remedies” from 1997 until they split and went solo in 2002. He continued as a solo artist and released the album “Pain and Stress = Success” (P.A.S.S.) in 2002.
The hit track titled “Wackawickee MC’s” from his first debut studio album was criticized by Popular Nigerian musicians like Tony Tetuila, Plantashun Boiz and Double X Posse. Later in that same year, which was in 2002, Eedris Abdulkareem released another hit single titled “Mr. Lecturer”. The music addresses issues faced by female students in Nigerian colleges, polytechnics and universities, whereby lecturers extort from them either in cash (money) or in kind (sex) in exchange for higher grades.
In 2004, Eedris Abdulkareem released his third hit single “Jaga Jaga” a Yoruba term for a shambles. The music focuses on the criticism of the Nigerian government due to high rate of corruption and suffering of the masses in Nigeria.
The music was banned from broadcasting on radio and television by President Olusegen Obasanjo, but continued to be played in nightclubs, events and ceremonies. In November 2005, Eedris Abdulkareem launched his own record label “La Kreem Music” and released his fourth debut studio album “Letter to Mr. President”. The music from his fourth debut studio album addressed Obasanjo’s criticisms of the hit single “Jaga Jaga”. The album also featured hit single like “Flash Up Unu Lighter” a tribute to Obasanjo’s wife, Stella Obasanjo, who died in 2005 after undergoing plastic surgery in Spain and unfortunately, on her way to Nigeria she was a victims of the Bellview Airlines crash of October 2005.
In January 2012, Eedris Abdulkareem released a sequel to “Jaga Jaga” during the Occupy Nigeria protest against lifting of fuel subsidies. In 2004, Eedris Abdulkareem got married to his long time girlfriend Yetunde and the marriage is currently blessed with four lovely children.
In 2000, Eedris Abdulkareem was among the personalities voted for by the Nigerian public to carry the Olympic torch in a relay through the country. In 2002, Eedris Abdulkareem released his first debut studio album Mr. Lecturer. In 2004, he released his second debut studio album “Jaga Jaga”. In 2005, he released his third debut studio album “Letter to Mr. President”. In 2007, he released his fourth debut studio album “King is Back”.
In 2010, he released his fifth debut studio album “Unfinished Business”. Eedris Abdulkareem has several hit singles which include Jaga Jaga part 2, Wonkere, Sekere, Fela, I Go Whoze You, Trouble Dey Sleep, amongst others.
Eedris Abdulkareem in the cause of his music career has won several awards and nominations in Nigeria which include Best Collaboration of the Year and Best Song of the Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.
Eedris Abdulkareem is currently one of the richest and most influential artist in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $1 million.
