Nigerian Federal Government has warned the EndSARS protesters to stop the ongoing protests across the country; the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed made the warning on Saturday, October 17 2020. Lai Mohammed said the Federal Government would not tolerate anarchy in the country.
Following the on-going protests against the activities of the operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the federal government has issued a strong warning to the protesters and urged them to quit the protest. It was reported that the Federal Government said it would not allow the country to be thrown into anarchy following the violence that has trailed the End SARS protests.
It was gathered that the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, stated this on Saturday, October 17 2020, when he featured on a late-night Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) news programme “Weekend File.”
The programme entitled “EndSARS protest: The way forward” was monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja. The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, warns EndSARS protesters saying that the assassination attempt on the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola was a clear confirmation that the protests had been hijacked by hoodlums and people with ulterior agenda.
While addressing the protesters, the Minister of Information and Culture noted that while the original conveners of the protests might have meant well, it was obvious that they were no longer in control of the initiative. Lai Mohammed noted that Peaceful protest is an integral part of democracy and that is why the federal government in the last 11 days has treated the protesters in a very civilized manner.
Few days ago Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun state was attacked by End SARS protesters. However, during an interview with the governor, he stated that the evil was perpetrated by armed thugs. It was reported that Oyetola, his deputy Benedict Alabi and other state executives had narrowly escaped death on Saturday, October 17, 2020 when thugs attacked them after addressing EndSARS protesters in Osogbo, the capital city of the state.
