How To Get Rid Of Cracked Heels

Cracked heels is a common problem but can be unpleasant. They make it harder for you to walk around in sandals.  We need to take care of our feet not just our body because the feet require constant moisturization. If we don’t take care of them, they can attract bacterial and fungal and can also result to cracked heels.

1. Vicks Vaporub

Vicks Vaporub is an emollient, thereby it traps in moisture and stay on the skin to form a protective barrier. Vicks Vaporub has been used as medicine for years in treating stuffy nose or cough, healing rough skin and cracked heels, treat headaches and relieve muscle and joint pain. It contains eucalyptus, camphor and menthol and many essential oils in a turpentine oil base. The eucalyptus and menthol provide cooling effect. It can also get rid of fungus on nails. Wash your feet and apply a generous quantity, massage for 5 minutes and put on your socks. Wash your feet with lukewarm water the following morning, do this daily before going to bed for best results.

2. Epsom Salt

These helps to flush out heavy metals from your cells, eliminate odor and harmful substances from the body, draws out infection and ease pain. It also exfoliates to soften rough cracked feet. Epsom salt is rich in magnesium which may boost the levels of mineral in the body and reduces inflammation; it has calming and relaxing effect which can be beneficial to your foot. Add half a cup of Epsom salt to warm water, stir and soak your feet in it for 20 minutes. Scrub to remove dead skin cells and apply coconut oil to your feet. Do this 2 times a week.

3. Mouthwash

Mouthwash does not only help to fight  germs and bacteria living in your mouth, it can also be used to get rid of grime on the heels, prevent calluses and help with diabetes – related foot issue. Mouthwash   contains menthol, alcohol and thymol which can soothe skin, fight bacteria and dead skin due to its antifungal properties and also leave your feet feeling rejuvenated and smooth. Mix one cup of your antiseptic mouthwash   to 2 cups of warm water and soak in your feet for 20-30 minutes. This is one of the simplest methods to get rid of cracked heels.

4. Vegetable Oil

Vegetable oil contains vitamin A, D and E which nourishes the skin and creates new cells; they are easily absorbed by the skin. They are loaded with fats which can hydrate the skin and erases damage. Vegetable oil contains antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidants, emollient properties and wound-healing properties which act as nutritional building blocks for healthy skin.  Clean  and dry your feet with warm water, apply a layer of vegetable oil to your heels and toes and put on your socks, leaving them overnight, wash your feet the next morning.

5. Lemon and Vaseline

The acidic nature of lemon helps to soften dry skin and tough heels. It weakens dead skin cells and gets rid of them while creating new cell growth; it also adds nutrition to your skin and enhances the smell of the Vaseline.  Vaseline also known as petroleum jelly can help heel rough skin on your heels because it serves as a moisturizer, especially when used on damp skin, it keeps in moisture. Soak your feets in warm water with lemon juice added to it. After 20 minutes, clean your leg with soft towel and smear Vaseline into the cracks of your feet.

6. Shea Butter

These can help to reduce dryness of cracked heels and provide immediate softening effect; it moisturizes hydrates and nourishes your feet and skin. Shea butter is rich in vitamin A and E that will help to ensure that your feet retains moisture throughout the day, conditions them to prevent them from further cracking. It provides the skin with nutrients and ward off skin problems. All you have to do is to massage this butter on your feet, put your socks on and leave it overnight to work its magic.

7. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera has been used to improve health issues, specifically in regards to your skin. It is loaded with nutrients that promote healing and repairing dry and damaged feet. It brings back the lost moisture of your dry skin and feet, it heals the ridges that have form by increasing collagen synthesis.  Aloe Vera nourishes your skin leaving it healthy, smooth and flawless. Apply a layer of aloe Vera and put on your socks. Do this every night before bed time.

8. Honey

Honey is a natural humectants that moistens dry skin. It helps in cleansing, healing and moisturizing the skin. It is very effective in treating dry and cracked heels due to its antiseptic and antibacterial properties, honey draws water from the inner tissues to the outer layers of the skin, increase the water capacity of the skin, thereby plumping the outer skin and maintaining moisture.  Mix honey in warm water and soak your feet for 15 minutes. Rinse your feet with cool water and clean with soft towel. Repeat these daily till your feet’s  are healed.
