How To Whiten Teeth At Home

Everyone dream of having that white and perfect set of teeth, some of us go to dentists or teeth professionals to get our teeth whiten but there are effective ways you can whiten your teeth at home and save your money. Yellow teeth can be caused by specific foods and beverages which can stain the teeth and also enamel thinning. Follow these steps to whiten your teeth naturally.

1. Baking Soda and Lemon Juice

Baking soda is great for removing stains from your teeth, it is a mild abrasive   that scrubs away surface stains, it contains alkaline and natural whitening properties that create an alkaline environment which prevents bacteria from growing and helps lighten acid – based food stains.  Lemons have antibacterial properties that kill the micro organisms living in your mouth, lemon contains vitamin c known for lightening the teeth. Put a pinch of baking soda on your toothbrush and add few drops of lemon juice over it, do not use this method more than once a week.

2. Sea Salt and Toothpaste

Sea salt has anti bacterial and antimicrobial properties, which protect your enamel, attack bacterial cell walls and freshen your breath. It acts as a surface abrasive which effectively cleans your teeth and removes dental plaque, it has many minerals and elements such as iron, calcium and magnesium that are beneficial for the teeth. Sea salt is not just great for the teeth but also for the gums.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent and a disinfectant; it is a natural alternative to traditional store-bought whitening toothpaste. It can also be used to treat bad breath caused by bacteria in the mouth because it can be used to eliminate bacteria that causes bad odor. It can also be used as a mouthwash before brushing your teeth.  Mix equal amounts hydrogen peroxide with water, swish around your mouth for 30 seconds and spit the solution out .Do these once or twice a week.

4. Strawberry

These delicious   fruit is very effective in lightening your teeth because they contain malic acid which is known for its bleaching power, malic acid increases saliva production in people with dry mouth which protect the teeth against tooth decay, a common cause of discolouration for the teeth. Mash a ripe strawberry with your spoon and brush your teeth with this paste, it can get rid of yellow stain in no time.

5. Banana Peels

These helps to remove stain from the teeth. Banana peels are rich in manganese, potassium and magnesium that absorb into your enamel making it thick and healthy and help to whiten your teeth. It is very safe as it is not an abrasive. You can also do much better by eating bananas as it contains essential nutrients in ample quantity. To use banana peels, simply peel a ripe banana and rub your teeth inside of the peel for two minutes, do these regularly for two weeks to get your desired result.

6. Diary Products

Diary products such as milk, yoghurt and cheese contain nutrients that are beneficial for the teeth. Milk contains lactic acid that lightens your enamel, guard against tooth decay and casein, a protein in milk that prevents staining. Cheese is a great source of calcium and phosphorous that strengthens, repair and whiten your teeth. Taking diary products helps to produce more saliva that washes away staining food particles.

7. Pineapple

Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelin which can break down proteins including those in your pellicle layer. Your teeth are covered with pellicle which absorbs pigments from food and cause staining. Your pellicle layer gives bacteria something to stick to and if bacteria accumulate, they can cause tooth stain or discolouration. Bromelian serves as a natural stain remover for your teeth and helps to remove plaque.

8. Carrots and Broccoli

Carrots boosts the mouth overall general health, it is rich in vitamin A which strengthens  your gum and cleanse your teeth due to their high water contents, it is vital in keeping the tooth enamel healthy. Broccoli is packed with lots of nutrients that is needed by the teeth and helps to coat or protect your teeth due to its iron content which can keep your teeth safe from   acidic foods and drinks that can cause damage to your teeth or gums.
