Li Lianjie popularly known as Jet Li is a famous Chinese actor, filmmaker, martial artist, film director, film producer, investor, entrepreneur, philanthropist, television personality and a retired Wushu champion who was born in Beijing, the capital city of China. He was born on 26th April 1963 in Beijing, China.

He is currently 55 years old. He is a naturalized Singaporean citizen. Jet Li was born in Beijing, the capital city of China and was the youngest child in a family of two boys and two girls. When he was 2 years old his father died and since the death of his father, his family has lived in poverty.

Jet Li was 8 years old when his talent for Wushu was noticed as he practiced at a school summer course. As a teenager, he attended a non-sparring wushu event. Later on, he joined the Beijing Wushu Team which did a martial art display at the All China Games. While in Beijing Wushu Team, he met renowned coaches like Li Junfeng and Wu Bin, who make extra efforts to help him develop his talent.

At a very young age, Je Li competed against adults in the Chinese Wushu Championships and won fifteen gold medals and one silver medal. At the age of 11 years old, Jet Li won his first national championship in wushu. At the age of 17 years old, Jet Li retired from the wushu sport and made his film debut in the blockbuster film “Shaolin Temple” a movie that brought him to fame and made him a star in his home country of China.

After three years of training with Wu Bin, Jet Li won his first national championship for the Beijing Wushu Team. After retiring finally from Wushu at the age 19 years old, Jet Li went on to achieve great fame in China as an actor making his debut with the film “Shaolin Temple” a movie which was produced in 1982.

In 2002, Jet Li became a legend and a global figure after featuring in the blockbuster films “Hero” and “Fist of Legend”. After the success of the film, he went on to star in many critically acclaimed martial arts epic films, making him one of the most accomplished and successful movie star in Asia.

In 1998, Jet Li acted in the movie “Lethal Weapon” and also played his first leading role in the 2000 Hollywood blockbuster film “Romeo Must Die” where he played the role of Han Sing. Jet Li has acted in uncountable number of films; some of the action films he has acted include “Kiss of the Dragon” which was produced in 2001, “Unleashed” which was produced in 2005, The One which was produced in 2001, “War” which was produced in 2007, The Forbidden Kingdom, The Expendables and Tomb of the Dragon Emperor which was produced in 2008. Jet Li’s martial arts prowess contributed to his domestic and international fame.

In 1987, Jet Li got married to Huang Qiuyan, who was a Beijing Wushu Team member and also a co-star who played the role of a kid from the 1982 blockbuster movie “Shaolin Temple” and her marriage with Jet Li is currently blessed with two daughters namely Si and Taimi. Unfortunately, in 1990, Jet Li and his wife Huang Qiuyan got divorced and went their separate ways.

Since 1999, Jet Li has been married to Nina Li Chi, who is currently a Hong Kong-based actress and the marriage is currently blessed with two daughters namely Jane Li, who was born in 2000 and Jada Li, who was born in 2003.

In 2009, Jet Li, who previously had US citizenship after many years of working in the United States of America, renounced his US citizenship and took up Singaporean citizenship, although Singaporean authorities did not initially provide any confirmation concerning the claim.

On 28th July 2009, the chairman of One Foundation, which is currently the Charity fund of Jet Li, announced that Jet Li had indeed become a Singaporean citizen. He further stated that Jet Li have chosen Singapore for its education system for his two young daughters. In 2009, Jet Li launched his own fitness program that he named “Wuji”. The programme consists of elements of martial arts, yoga, and Pilates.

In 2013, Jet Li revealed that he is suffering from hyperthyroidism and has been dealing with the issue for the past three years. Since his heart rate can hit 130-140 at normal, Jet Li takes medication to control his heart rate and has been advised not to do any sort of exercise. In 2016, Jet Li stated that he had recovered from his illness and is now accepting fewer film roles and was ready to continue his charity work globally.
