Joel Scott Osteen popularly known as Joel Osteen is a famous American pastor, motivational speaker, author, writer and a televangelist based in Houston, Texas in the United States of America. Joel Osteen’s televised sermons are seen by over 7 million viewers weekly and over 20 million viewers monthly in over 100 countries. He is the senior pastor of Lakewood Church, the largest church in America with over 65,000 members.
He was born on 5th March 1963 in Houston, Texas in the United States of America. He is currently 55 years old. He is born into the family of six children. His father’s name is John Osteen. He is the founder of Lakewood Church, the largest church in America. His mother’s name is Dolores Pilgrim Osteen.
Joel Osteen attended Humble High School, a public high school in the city of Humble, Texas in the United States of America and graduated from high school in 1981. After completing his secondary school education, Joel Osteen proceeded to Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the United States of America, where he studied Radio and Television Communications. Unfortunately, he did not graduate and did not receive a degree from a divinity school.
In 1982, Joel Osteen returned to Houston, Texas in the United States of America and founded Lakewood’s television program, where he produced his father’s televised sermons for 17 years until January 1999, when his father died unexpectedly from a heart attack.
Joel Osteen’s televised sermons are seen by over 7 million viewers weekly and over 20 million viewers monthly in over 100 countries. His sermons also broadcast 24 hours a day on Sirius XM Satellite Radio and Channel 128. Joel Osteen has written seven New York Times Best Sellers book.

In 2004, his first book, Your Best Life Now, was released by Time Warner and debuted at the top of the New York Times best Seller list. The book has remained on the New York Times Best Seller list for more than 200 weeks. In 1999, Joel Osteen became the senior pastor of Lakewood church after the death of his father.
In 1987, Joel Osteen got married to his beautiful wife Victoria Osteen and the couples are blessed with two lovely children namely Alexandra Osteen and Jonathan Osteen. Joel Osteen has acted in two Hollywood movies which include The Star and Just Laugh.
Joel Osteen’s father encouraged him to preach for many years, but he declined, preferring to work behind the scenes until 17th January 1999, when he accepted his father’s suggestion and he preached his first sermon, after which his father, John Osteen died six days later of a heart attack.
Two weeks after his father’s death, Osteen began preaching regularly and later that year, which was on 3rd October 1999, he was installed as the new senior pastor of Lakewood Church. Since then, Lakewood church attendance has grown from 5,000 to 43,000 and still counting.
In 2003, Lakewood Church acquired the Compaq Center, a former home of the NBA Houston Rockets. Renovations for the new space cost the church $105 million. The renovations took over 15 months to complete, and included the addition of five stories to add more capacity to the building. Lakewood church 2005 grand opening was attended by an estimated number of 56,000 people including Texas Governor Rick Perry and US House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
Joel Osteen motivational speeches on Lakewood Church are broadcasted on television and are seen in over 100 countries. In 2006, Joel Osteen was selected by Barbara Walters as one of her 10 Most Fascinating People of 2006. Former American presidential candidate John Mc Cain has described Joel Osteen as his favorite inspirational author. In 2010, Joel Osteen and his family attended Easter breakfast hosted by American former President Barack Obama at the White House in Los Angeles, United States of America.

Joel Osteen’s sermon preparation involves memorizing his remarks and listening to himself on tape. During an interview, Joel Osteen stated that he chooses to focus more on the goodness of God and on living an obedient life rather than on sin. He says that he tries to teach Biblical principles in a simple way, emphasizing the power of love and a positive attitude.
In October 2004, Joel Osteen’s first book, Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential was published and reached the number 1 position on the New York Times Best Seller list.
In October 2007, Joel Osteen released his second book, titled “Become a Better You: 7 Keys to Improving Your Life Every Day” which also topped the New York Times Best Seller list and had a first printing of four million copies. Joel Osteen has said that the book focuses more on relationships and not getting stuck where we are in life.
As senior pastor, Joel Osteen says he draws no salary from the church, which has an annual budget of $70 million. Instead, he relies on income from the sales of his books. On 4th April 1987, Joel Osteen got married to Lakewood Church co-pastor Victoria Osteen and the marriage is blessed with a son and a daughter. His older siblings namely Paul, Lisa and his younger sister, Tamara are also involved in full-time ministry.
His half-brother Justin does missionary work and is based in New York, United States of America. Joel Osteen lives with his family in a 17,000 square-foot mansion in River Oaks, Houston, Texas in the United States of America worth $10.5 million.
Joel Osteen’s sermons and writings are sometimes criticized for promoting prosperity theology or the prosperity gospel, a belief that the reward of material gain is the will of God for all pious Christians.

In 2011, Joel Osteen and Lakewood Church were sued by the band The American Dollar for copyright infringement. A judge in 2012 ruled in favor of Joel Osteen, but gave The American Dollar leave to amend the case.
In March 2017, a family filed a lawsuit against Lakewood Church and Joel Osteen claiming their 18 months old daughter suffered injuries following an altercation at the church in May 2014. However, Lakewood Church said it was unable to confirm the story and the suit was settled by the church’s insurance company.
Joel Osteen is currently one of the richest and most influential personality in the United States of America with an estimated net worth of $60 million.
