Joke Silva is a veteran Nollywood actress, producer, business woman, entrepreneur, investor and a television personality. She is the wife to legendary Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs. She was born on 29th September 1961 in Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria into a family of four children. She is currently 61 years old. Her late mother, Adebimbola Silva, was a medical doctor, who died in July 2015 while her father was a lawyer.

In the early 1990s, Joke Silva started her professional acting career and joined the Nigerian movie industry popularly known as Nollywood and acted in her first movie “Mind Bending” and since then she has featured in several Nollywood movies. She has been described as one of the best performing actress in Nigeria. She stare mostly as a mother, wife, grandmother and mother in-law in several Nollywood movies.

Joke Silva is the amiable wife of Nollywood famous actor Olu Jacobs and both of them has been rated as the hottest couples in Nollywood. Joke Silva has acted in more than 250 Nollywood movies which include Phone Swap, The Secret Laughter of Women, Last Wedding, White Waters, Women’s Cot, The Amazing Grace, Letters to a Stranger, Tango with me, 30 Days, Kada River, Married but Living Single, The Grave Dust, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, Timeless, The Visitors, Bandits, Potato Potahto, and more.

Joke Silva completed her primary school education in Lagos State, Nigeria and obtained her First School Leaving Certificate. After completing her primary school education, Joke Silva attended Holy Child College in Lagos State, Nigeria and obtained her West African Senior School Certificate.

After completing her primary and secondary school education, Joke Silva proceeded to University of Lagos (UNILAG) and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language. After obtaining her first degree in English Language from University of Lagos, Joke Silva went further to complete her tertiary education at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, United Kingdom where she studied drama.

In 1998, she had a major movie role which she starred alongside with Colin Firth and Nia Long in the British-Canadian film “The Secret Laughter of Women”. In 2006, she won the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2nd Africa Movie Academy Awards for her performance in “Women’s Cot”.

In 1985, Joke Silva got married to Nollywood famous actor Olu Jacobs and the marriage is blessed with two grown up children and a grandchild. However, the couple met in 1981 at the National Theatre in Lagos, Nigeria during the 21st Independence Anniversary. The couple founded and operated the Lufodo Group covering film production and distribution assets and the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, where she is the Director of Studies.

In 2008, Joke Silva won the award for Best actress in a supporting Role at the 4th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her role as a grandmother in the movie “White Waters”. She is one of the most gifted, most creative, most skillful and most talented actresses in Nigeria and has a good command of English Language. She knows how to interpret her roles very well and can fit in any character given to her by movie directors and producers.

Joke Silva is the managing director of Malete Film Village, in association with Kwara State University. In October 2012, the “United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime” appointed Joke Silva as a goodwill ambassador. In accordance with the United Nations policy of enlisting prominent figures in art, music, film, sport and literature to assist with their campaigns, Joke Silva’s role was focused on her participation in the fight against human trafficking in Nigeria.

In addition to her work as an actress, Joke Silva is also a philanthropist and a strong supporter of women’s emancipation and empowerment, contributing to their education, training and progress. In September 2016, she was unveiled as the brand ambassador for AIICO Pension Managers Limited (APML).

On 29th September 2014, Joke Silva was honored by Nigerian government as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), one of Nigeria’s National Honours Awards held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja the capital city of Nigeria and which happens to be the highest award given to celebrities in Nigeria.
