Kalu Egbui Ikeagwu popularly known as Kalu Ikeagwu is a famous Nollywood actor, producer, director, script writer, television personality and a philanthropist. He was born on 18th May 1972 in England, United Kingdom. He is currently 45 years old. He has a British citizenship by birth. Kalu Ikeagwu relocated to Nigeria at the age of 9 years old due to fears from his parents that he might abandon his Igbo roots.
He is originally from Enugu State in the south eastern part of Nigeria. He had his primary school education in England and Zambia before relocating to Nigeria where he completed his secondary school education and obtained his West African Senior School Certificate.
After completing his secondary school education, Kalu Ikeagwu proceeded to University of Nigeria, Nsukka in Enugu State, Nigeria and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English in 1991.
Kalu Ikeagwu had the passion to become an actor from a very tender age and began performing in drama and stage play. His first stage performance was in “Put Out The Houselights” by Esiaba Ironsi.
After which he went ahead to act in some of Nigeria’s memorable classics drama. After performing in “Put Out The Houselights” Kalu Ikeagwu went ahead to play the role of Major Lejoka Brown in Ola Rotimi play “Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again”. Kalu Ikeagwu also played the role of RIP in Esiaba Irobi’s drama “Hangmen Also Die”. After that, he went on to perform in various plays at the Edinburgh Festivals in 1995 and 1997.
In 2005, Kalu Ikeagwu joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) and acted in his first television soap opera “Domino” a movie that brought him to limelight. His first feature film was in Emem Isong’s movie “For Real” were he played the role of David Salako.
Kalu Ikeagwu has acted in more than 200 Nollywood movies and television series which include 30 Days, The Wrong Woman, Distance Between, Tinsel, 168, Doctors’ Quarters, Between Two Worlds, Love My Way, Fragile Pain, For Real, Games Men Play, Insecurity, Crisis in Paradise, War Without End, My Precious Son, Damage, Pretty Angels, The Lost Maiden, Darkest Night, Freedom Bank, The Waiting Years, Ocean Deep, Count On Me, Two Brides and a Baby, Broken, Accident, Blue Flames, etc.
Kalu Ikeagwu is also a movie producer and a script writer. He has produced several movies in Nigeria. He has also acted in Irish film production “Rapt in Éire”. He is popularly known for his role as “Alahji Abubakar” a.k.a. “Masters” in the Nigerian popularly television series “Tinsel”.
In 2011, Kalu Ikeagwu was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Best of Nollywood Awards. 1n 2012, he was nominated for Best Actor (African Collaboration) at the Ghana Movie Awards.
In 2013, he was nominated for three awards which include Best Actor at the Golden Icons Academy Awards, Best Upcoming Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards and Best Supporting Actor at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
In 2014, he was nominated for two awards which include Best Supporting actor at the Best of Nollywood Awards and Best Supporting actor at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
On Saturday, 26th June 2016, Nollywood star, Kalu Ikeagwu got married to his long time girl friend Ijeoma Eze. Both the traditional and church wedding took place in Enugu State in the south eastern part of Nigeria and was attended by top Nollywood celebrities and important dignitaries from the entertainment industry.
Kalu Ikeagwu is currently one of the richest and most influential actor in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $1 million.
