Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio popularly known as Leonardo DiCaprio is a famous Hollywood actor, filmmaker, producer and a television personality. He began his career by appearing in television commercials in the late 1980s. He was born on 11th November 1974 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California in the United States of America. He is currently 43 years old.
He is the only child of Irmelin DiCaprio, a legal secretary and George DiCaprio, an underground comix artist, producer and distributor of comic books. DiCaprio’s father is of Italian and German descent. His parents met while attending college and subsequently moved to Los Angeles, California in the United States of America.
His parents separated when he was just one year old, and he lived mostly with his mother. The two lived in several Los Angeles neighborhoods while his mother worked several jobs.
Leonardo DiCaprio attended Seeds Elementary School and John Marshall High School. After which he attended the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies for four years and earned a diploma. Leonardo DiCaprio spent part of his childhood in Germany with his maternal grandparents. He is conversant in German and Italian.
Leonardo DiCaprio began his career by appearing in television commercials in the late 1980s. He had recurring roles in various television series such as the soap opera “Santa Barbara” and the sitcom “Growing Pains”. He has won Best Actor at the Academy Awards.
Leonardo DiCaprio made his debut in the film “Critters 3” a 1991 action film, where he played the role of Josh. In 1993, he starred in the film adaptation of the memoir “This Boy’s Life” and received global recognition. The film earned him his first nomination at the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
He gained public recognition and became a public figure with leading roles in the 1995 movie “The Basketball Diaries” and the 1996 romantic drama “Romeo and Juliet”. In 1997, he achieved international fame as a star in James Cameron’s romantic epic movie “Titanic” which became the highest grossing film of all time to this point.
Since 2000, Leonardo DiCaprio has received critical acclaim for his work in a wide range of film genres. His subsequent films include The Man in the Iron Mask, Catch Me If You Can, Gangs of New York, Blood Diamond, The Departed, Body of Lies, Revolutionary Road, Shutter Island, Inception, The Great Gatsby, amongst others.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s role as Howard Hughes in the 2004 movie “The Aviator” and his role as Hugh Glass in the 2015 movie “The Revenant” won him the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. His performance as Jordan Belfort in the 2013 movie “The Wolf of Wall Street” won him the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in Motion Picture Musical and Comedy.
He also won the Academy Award for Best Actor and BAFTA Award for his performance in the 2015 movie “The Revenant”. Leonardo DiCaprio is the founder of his own production company “Appian Way Production” and has produced several Hollywood movies under his production name.
Leonardo DiCaprio is currently one of the richest and most influential actor in the United States of America with an estimated net worth of $245 million.
