Lionel Andres Leo Messi Cuccittini popularly known as Lionel Messi is a famous world football legend, athlete, professional footballer and a model. He currently plays for his country Argentina national team and Spanish club Barcelona as a forward striker. He is often considered as the best player in the world and widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time. He was born on 24^th June 1987 in Rosario, Argentina. He is currently 30 years old.

He is the third child in the family of four children. His father’s name is Jorge Messi while his mother’s name is Celia Cuccittini. His father was a factory steel worker while his mother was a cleaner. He began playing football from a very tender age. At the age of 11 years old, Messi was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency (GHD).

Messi developed a passion for sport from an early age, playing constantly with his older brothers, Rodrigo and Matías, and his cousins, Maximiliano and Emmanuel Biancucchi, both of whom became professional footballers. At the age of 13 years old, Messi relocated to Spain to join Barcelona, who agreed to pay for his medical treatment.

At the age of 4 years old, Messi joined local club “Grandoli” where he was coached by his father, though his earliest influence as a player came from his maternal grandmother, Celia, who accompanied him to training and matches.

At the age of 11 years old, he lost his maternal grandmother and was greatly affected by her maternal grandmother’s death. Since then, as a devout Catholic, he has celebrated his goals by looking up and pointing to the sky in tribute of his maternal grandmother.

In February 2001, Messi was signed to Barcelona and joined the youth academy “La Masia” as a junior player. After a year at Barcelona’s youth academy “La Masia” Messi was finally enrolled in the Royal Spanish Football Federation in February 2002.

After completing his growth hormone treatment at the age of 14 years old, Messi became an integral part of the “Baby Dream Team” and Barcelona’s greatest-ever youth side. During his first full season in 2002–2003, Messi was the top goal scorer with 36 goals in 30 games for the Cadetes A, who won both the Spanish and Catalan cups.

At the close of the season in Barcelona youth academy, Messi received an offer to join Arsenal by Arsene Wenger. He declined the offer and decided to remain in Barcelona.

After a fast progression and success through Barcelona’s youth academy, Messi joined the Barcelona senior team at the age of 17 years old in October 2004. Despite being injury-prone during his early career, he established himself as the best player for the club within the next three years. In 2007, at the age of 22 years old, Messi won the Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Best Player of the Year award.

In the course of his career as a footballer, Messi has won 29 trophies with Barcelona, including eight La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League titles and five Copas del Rey. Messi is both a prolific goal scorer and a creative playmaker. He has being declared as ajuju player by fans all over the world due to the way he dribble. Messi holds the highest records of goals score in the history of football.

Messi is currently one of the most successful and accomplished footballer in history that every club will want to have in their team, but he chooses to remain in Barcelona. However, some critics believe that if Messi leaves Barcelona to another club, his performance will drop drastically. Messi is currently married and has a son whom he treasures so much.

In 2013, Messi’s financial affairs came under investigation for suspected tax evasion. In May 2016, Messi stood trial alongside with his father on three counts charges of tax evasion. On 6^th July 2016, Messi and his father were both found guilty of tax fraud and were both sentenced to 21 months imprisonment and respectively ordered to pay €1.7 million and €1.4 million in fines.

Lionel Messi is currently one of the richest and most influential footballer in the world with an estimated net worth of $300 million.
