Debbie Matthies, professionally known as Meggy SiL, is an Afro-German solo singer, songwriter, moderator, and philanthropist. Born on December 28, 1992, in Ewatto, Esan South East, Edo State, Nigeria, Meggy SiL embarked on a remarkable journey that has taken her from her hometown in Nigeria to Germany. Her passion for music was evident from a young age, and in 2013, her professional music career took off in Idar-Oberstein, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, under the mentorship of James Williams, an Afro-American singer, songwriter, and music teacher. Williams provided Meggy SiL with valuable vocal training, helping her hone her skills as a singer.
Meggy SiL gained recognition in Idar-Oberstein for her captivating live music covers. However, in 2015, she relocated to Niedersachsen, a northern region of Germany, and her focus on music took a backseat for a while.
After experiencing the loss of a brother in February 2022, Meggy SiL found solace and healing in music. It became her outlet for self-expression and a way to cope with her emotions. In December 2022, she released her debut single titled “Boom,” an Afro-Soul track infused with French vibes. The song draws inspiration from her beliefs and religion, portraying love as the essence of the world. 
In May 2023, Meggy SiL completed her EP titled “Love Undiluted,” which is set to be released on the 16th of June 2023. The lyrics of the EP were inspired by the memory of her late brother. Drawing from her own experiences of growing up without a mother and the pain of losing a sibling, Meggy SiL has crafted a collection of songs that explore the themes of love, authenticity, purity, and integrity.
Through her music, she aims to create awareness and promote a “love attitude” in our everyday lives. Meggy SiL’s lyrics in “Love Undiluted” depict herself, telling her story and expressing her needs. The EP represents her call for awareness and a change in the “love attitude” in society. Meggy SiL is a firm believer in love and practices it in her everyday life. Her unique lyrical style leaves listeners intrigued while enjoying the captivating rhythms of her music.
Alongside her flourishing music career, Meggy SiL holds an academic background that includes primary school education in Edo State, Nigeria, secondary school education in Ondo State, Nigeria, and nursing school in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, where she graduated in 2015. With nearly eight years of experience, she balances her passion for music with her dedication to her nursing profession and her musical endevour.
Meggy SiL is a proud mother of two children, Eronse Matthies (5 years) and Isi Matthies (2 years). She is dedicated to caring for others and has worked in intensive nursing. As a philanthropist, Meggy SiL actively seeks to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
