Muna Obiekwe Biography and Life History

Munachimso Obiekwe popularly known as Muna Obiekwe is a famous Nollywood actor, producer and a television personality. He acts mostly in romantic and action movies alongside with Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Stephanie okereke, Jim Iyke, Ramsey Noah, Ini Edo, Tonto Dikeh, Desmond Elliot, Uche Jumbo and a host of other top Nollywood celebrities.

He was in 1979 in Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria and died on 18th January 2015 in Festac Town, Lagos State, Nigeria at the age of 36 years old after been diagnosed of kidney disease. He is very handsome, gifted, skillful, creative and talented in acting and interpretation of movies. He knows how to interpret his roles very well and can fit in any character given to him by movie directors and producers in Nigeria.

Muna Obiekwe is originally from Enugu State in the south eastern part of Nigeria, but was born and bred in Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria, where he completed both his primary and secondary school education and obtained both his First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate.

Muna Obiekwe joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) in the late 1990s and since then till his death, has acted in several Nollywood blockbuster movies. Some of the movies he has acted include Across the Bridge, The Laptop, Negative Influence, Men in Love, Eyes of the Gods, Song of Sorrows, Dangerous Ivy, My Darling Princess, Unstoppable, The Princess of my Life, The Wrong One, Broken Mirror, Prince of my Land, Arrows, Not Man Enough, Blackberry Babe, Dirty Secret, He Lives in Me, etc.

He was one of the most handsome, most gifted, most skillful, most creative and most talented actors in Nigeria. He knows how to interpret his roles very well and can fit in any character given to him by movie directors and producers in Nigeria. He was secretly married to Gift Obiekwe and the marriage was blessed with two beautiful kids. He kept his marriage, personal and private life secret and avoided press and media attention until his untimely and painful death.

Muna Obiekwe throughout his life lived a private lifestyle and was addicted to alcohol. He was suffering from kidney disease for a very long time but didn’t tell anyone. He kept the sickness secret to himself and didn’t even inform his colleague in the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood). Not until his sickness become worse that he decided to reveal the secret of his sickness. He was placed on dialysis by medical doctor because his two kidneys has failed and were no longer functioning.

Muna Obiekwe discovered his kidney problem a long time ago but like most people, he thought he could manage it. He ignored the pain and continued working without paying much attention on it. According to a reliable source, he only took his drugs and medication once in a while as he never believed the ailment could lead to his death. He believed he would survive it.

He was not a kind of person that worries too much about things. He believed it was not a coincidence that his parents named him Munachimso, a name which means God is walking with me. He faithfully believed that the sickness will go soon or later. But his wishes never come to pass. As the illness became serious and he was forced to reveal the secret to his family, friends and colleagues in the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood).

Many top Nollywood celebrities, producers and media practitioners, including family and acquaintances assisted him to undergo kidney transplant, but unfortunately, he died after he was placed on dialysis by medical doctors because his two kidneys have stopped functioning. Some of the doctors stated that the cause of the kidney disease and his untimely death was due to the fact that he drank alcohol too much, and that has affected his health drastically. His death came as a surprise to many as a lot of people including friends and colleagues in the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) didn’t know he was sick.

Muna Obiekwe in the cause of his career as an actor has won several awards which include Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, Most Promising Actor in Nigeria at the City People Entertainment Awards and Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.

Unfortunately, on 18th January 2015, Muna Obiekwe died in a hospital in Festac Town, Lagos, Nigeria at the age of 36 years old. The cause of his death was due to his kidney failure. He was one of the richest and most influential actor in Nigeria before his death with an estimated net worth of $400,000.
