Felicity Ama Agyemang popularly known as Nana Ama McBrown is a famous Ghanaian actress, model, television presenter and a music writer. She rose to prominence for her role in the television series Tentacles. She was born on 15th August 1977 in Kumasi, Ghana. She is currently 41 years old. Nana Ama McBrown started her career as a TV presenter and a later found mainstream success following her rousing performance in the Twi-language movie Asoreba.
Nana Ama McBrown mother, Cecilia Agyenim Boateng and her father Kwabena Nkrumah divorced when Nana Ama McBrown was still very young. With her father gone and her mother unable to take care of her and her six other siblings, Nana Ama McBrown together with her siblings were adopted by Kofi McBrown and her aunt, Madam Betty Obiri Yeboah. As a result, Nana Ama McBrown considers her childhood to have been difficult.
Along with her six siblings, Nana Ama McBrown grew up in Kwadaso, Kumasi in Ghana with her aunt, and her adopted father. To this very day, she still considers her aunt to be her real mother and has spoken of her gratitude to her aunt for having provided her with a stable and caring home.
Nana Ama McBrown attended St. Peter’s International Residential School and obtained her First School Leaving Certificate. After that, she proceeded to Minnesota International School and then later moved to Central International School to obtain her Senior School Certificate. Unfortunately, she ended up as a drop out and could not sit for the Basic Education Certificate Exams.
Nana Ama McBrown essentially stumbled into acting in 1998. She answered an audition call on the radio by Miracle Films and was hired to do costume job instead. However, on the set, she was able to snag the lead role after the director, Samuel Nyamekye, felt that she was better suited for the role. In 2001, her first movie “That Day” was released launching her career as an actress.
Her performance in the movie “That Day” opened the floodgates to choicer roles, landing her a spot on the TV series “Tentacles”. In 2007, the movie “Asoreba” which she co-starred alongside with Agya Koo and Mercy Aseidu turned Nana Ama McBrown into a household name. Since then, she has slowly built a strong following by releasing a slew of critically acclaimed movies.
Nana Ama McBrown has been linked to Omar Sheriff Captan, her co-star in a number of movies, although both have continually denied any romantic attachments. In 2004, Nana Ama McBrown dated Okyeame Kwame, a Ghanaian musician. In the course of the year, the pair was seen traveling together all over Ghana promoting Okyeame Kwame’s solo release.
On 15th July 2007, Nana Ama McBrown was enthroned as the Nkosuohemaa (ceremonial queen-mother of development) of Assin-Basiako near Assin-Fosu in the Assin North District of the Central Region, Ghana. In 2016, Nana Ama McBrown got married to her longtime boyfriend Maxwell Mawu Mensah.
Nana Ama McBrown has acted in more than 80 Ghanaian movies which include Nnipa ye bad, Madam Joan, Kumasi Yonko, Odo Ntira, Kae Dabi, Asoreba, Alicia, Girl Connection, Playboy, My Own Mother, Friday Night, Evil Heart, The Pastor’s Wife, Pastors Club, I Know My Rights, The End, etc.
Nana Ama McBrown is currently one of the richest and most influential actress in Ghana with an estimated net worth of $350,000.
