Nigeria Super Eagles Defeated Burundi With 1-0 Victory

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Burundi with a 1-0 victory in the 2019 African Cup of Nation (AFCON) in Egypt. Nigeria match against Burundi in AFCON 2019 ended up in a 1-0 victory in favor of the Super Eagles of Nigeria. Odion Aghalo after returning as a substitute in few minutes towards the end of the game scored the winning goal for Nigeria as they began their AFCON campaign on a winning note.

In their next game, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be facing Guinea and Madagascar in their next two games at the 2019 African Cup of Nation (AFCON) in Egypt. The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday, 22nd June 2019, began their campaign at the 2019 African Cup of Nation (AFCON) in Egypt with a 1-0 victory against Burundi at the Alexandria Stadium in Egypt.

It was indeed a tough game for the Super Eagles of Nigeria as they labored so well before they could get the winning goal in the second half of the game. During the game, Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu had the first chance when he sent a header towards the goal post, but unluckily for him, Burundi’s goal keeper Jonathan Nahimana was able to save the ball from entering the goal net.

Also, in the 17 minutes of the game, Nigerian Super Eagles striker Oghenekaro Etebo directed the ball behind the defense, but his effort was intercepted and frustrated by Omar Moussa, who defended the ball and cleared it out. Also, Nigerian Super Eagles attacking midfielder Samuel Chukwueze launched a close range shot after connecting with Shehu Abdullahi’s pass from the right, but his shot was deflated by Cedric Amissi.

Another Nigerian Super Eagles player Chukwueze tried dribbling his way into Burundi’s defense line before firing the shot which was blocked by the defenders. Few minutes to the game, Nigerian Super Eagles technical adviser and head coach, Gernot Rohr later decided to substitute John Mikel Obi for Ahmed Musa in which Alex Iwobi then had the chance to operate in the midfield.

In the 77th minutes of the game, Nigerian Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo came into pitch after being substituted. Few minutes to the end of the game, Odion Ighalo through a pass assist by Nigerian Super Eagles defender Ola Aina scored a winning goal for Nigeria Super Eagles and thereby resulting the game in a 1-0 victory in favor of Nigeria.

However, before the start of the game, Nigerian Super Eagles technical adviser and head coach Gernot Rohr made it clear that his players are ready to face Burundi in their first game at the 2019 African Cup of Nation held in Egypt. After missing the last two editions of the Nations Cup, Nigeria make a return to the championship which they last won in 2013 under the management of Nigerian Super Eagles former head coach late Stephen Keshi.
