The former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday, April 11, 2021 attributed the annulment of June 12, 1993, presidential election which was presumably won by late philanthropist, MKO Abiola by former Military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida on bad belle.
Obasanjo said the annulment robbed Egbaland and Ogun state the rare privilege of having three of its prominent sons occupying the number one seat at different times. He further stated that apart from him and Chief Ernest Shonekan, a former Head of Interim National Government from Ogun state, no Yorubaman has headed the government of Nigeria, rather the north especially the Fulanis have been the ones controlling power since Nigeria got independent till date.
Does it mean that power only belong to people in the north. He however urged Nigerian’s to be proactive in selecting their leader in 2023.
He made the comment in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital shortly after his investiture as a trustee of the Abeokuta Club, a socio-cultural organization of the Egba people.
Obasanjo was honored alongside MKO Abiola who was awarded a posthumous vice-patron of the club.
