Ohanaeze Express Disappointment Over Buhari Tribalism As He Appoints New Chief of Army Staff

The apex socio-cultural organization in the southeast, Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo has reacted to the recent appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff in the person of Major General Farouk Yahaya by President Muhammadu Buhari. According to a post by Sahara Reporters, the position of the group was disclosed by the Secretary-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro.

He congratulated the new Chief of Army Staff but stressed that it was very obvious that a northerner will never solve the insecurity problem in the North or Nigeria as a whole, due to the fact that some officers from the region have been perceived to be complicit in the fight against insurgency, as they are a some party that are supporting the insurgents from the north.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo further noted that the President has again, shown that he is not a president for all, but a sectional president who is determined to favor a particular tribe at the detriment of other tribes, in a continuous abuse of the principle of Federal Character.

Also speaking, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Alex Ogbonnia, concluded that the Igbo people are very unhappy about the appointment, stressing that some South-East Generals would have been appointed as they are very qualified for that particular position.

He also added that the region was not happy, adding that it was very painful, and very unfortunate as it is very difficult to convince the youths from the region to calm down amid the perceived disenfranchisement by the federal government in terms of federal appointments.

He further noted that the more the elders try to ask the youths to calm down, the more they complained of being marginalized and the President just confirmed the marginalization by edging the region out of the appointment as chief of army staff.
