Omoni Oboli is a famous Nollywood actress, script writer, producer, director, model, television personality, entrepreneur, philanthropist and a trained digital filmmaker at the New York Film Academy. She was born on 22nd April 1978 in Benin City, Edo State in the south southern part of Nigeria. She is currently 39 years old.
Omoni Oboli has written and produced several movies which include Fatal Imagination, Being Mrs. Elliott, The First Lady, Wives on Strike, etc. In 2010, she won the award for Best Actress in a Narrative Feature at the Los Angeles Movie Awards in the United States of America and also won the award for Best Actress at the Harlem International Film Festival.
Omoni Oboli is originally from Mosogar, a small village in Delta State, Nigeria but was born and bred in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. Omoni Oboli completed both her primary and secondary school education in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria and obtained both her First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate.
After completing her secondary school education, Omoni Oboli proceeded to University of Benin in Edo State, Nigeria and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in French with a Second Class Upper Division.
In 1996, Omoni Oboli joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) and acted in her first movie “Bitter Encounter” where she played the role of a secretary. Her next movie was titled “Shame”. She then went on to play the lead female character in three major movies titled “Not My Will, Destined to Die and Another Campus Tale” a movie that brought her to limelight.
After enjoying a brief acting career, in 1996, Omoni Oboli left the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) and went back to school to complete her tertiary education at University of Benin and finally graduated in 2000. Immediately after her graduation from the university in 2000, Omoni Oboli got married to her long time boyfriend Nnamdi Oboli and the marriage is blessed with beautiful kids.
Omoni Oboli has acted in more than 150 Nollywood movies which include The Wedding, Okafor’s Law, Wives on Strike, The First Lady, The Duplex, Lunch Time Heroes, Being Mrs. Elliot, Brother’s Keeper, The Figurine, Feathered Dream, Entanglement, Bent Arrows, Anchor Baby, etc. She is currently one of the most gifted and most talented actresses in Nigeria. She is currently married with beautiful children.
In 2011, Omoni Oboli was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. In 2014, she won the Big Screen Actress of the Year at the ELOY Awards for her movie “Being Mrs. Elliott”.
In 2015, Omoni Oboli was awarded the Sun Nollywood Personality of the Year Award and has also shown her ability as a movie director with movies such as Being Mrs. Elliott, The First Lady, Wives on Strike and Okafor’s Law to her credit.
Omoni Oboli has written several movies which include “Wives on Strike” as well as “The Rivals” a movie she co-produced with her friend and which won the prize for Best International Drama at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.
The movies “Wives on Strike” and “The Rivals” was the first Nigerian film to be premiered since the festival’s inception in 2003. The movie was given a 3-star rating out of 4 by the festival’s judges.
Omoni Oboli has played lead characters in mainstream films which include The Figurine, Anchor, Being Mrs. Elliot and Fifty. She is also the first actress from Nollywood to win the Best Actress in two international festivals in 2010. She also won Best Actress at the Harlem International Film Festival and the Los Angeles Movie Awards for her lead role in the movie “Anchor Baby”.
Omoni Oboli starred in the movie “Okafor’s Law” which premiered on 24th March 2017. However, the movie could not be screened at the premiere due to an injunction by the court. Omoni Oboli was being accused of copyright infringement by Jude Idada, who claimed to have written part of the script for Okafor’s Law. The movie was released on 31st March 2017.
Omoni Oboli has a charity organization which she calls “The Omoni Oboli Foundation” a nongovernmental organization which she uses to bring well-needed relief to the plight of the less privileged women and children of Nigerian society.
The foundation has been able to embark on several projects which include the feeding of street children in Lagos and giving them a fun-filled day with gifts, the feeding and giving over two hundred poor and disadvantaged children at Delta Steel Complex in Aladja a fun day with practical gifts, broadening the mindset of the less privileged children by taking the children of Ecole Divine Nursery, Primary and Secondary School to a milk factory to see how it is made and packaged.
Omoni Oboli is currently one of the richest and most influential actress in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $400,000.
