Remilekun Abdulkalid Safaru popularly known by his stage name as Reminisce is a famous Nigerian singer, rapper, songwriter, recording artist, stage performer and a composer. He was born on 26^th January 1981 in Kaduna State in the northern part of Nigeria. He is currently 37 years old. He is very gifted, creative and talented.

Reminisce is originally from Ajilete, a small village in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State in the south western part of Nigeria, but was born and bred in Kaduna State in the northern part of Nigeria, where he completed both his primary and secondary school education and obtained both his First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate.

He is very versatile. He is a singer, rapper and a songwriter. After completing his primary and secondary school education, Reminisce proceeded to Kwara State Polytechnic and graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Purchasing and Supply.

While in school he listened to various genres of local and foreign music, and performed in school activities. He developed his rapping skills by emulating rappers like Nas Jay Z and Snoop Dogg. He is also known as Alaga Ibile. He performs in both English and his native language, Yoruba dialect.

He started his music career in 2008 and is currently signed to his own record label “Edge Records”. Reminisce is currently married to Iya Hafusa and the marriage is blessed with two children namely Hafusa Safaru and Fatimah Safaru. Reminisce is from a Muslim family and practice Islamic religion.

Reminisce has won the award for Rap Artiste of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards. The name Reminisce in the English language means, to indulge in the enjoyable recollection of past events and the first four letters (Remi) are a shortened form of his real name Remilekun.

Reminisce has collaborated with top artiste in Nigeria such as Olamide, Sean Tizzle, Brymo, MI, Ice Prince, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and other top celebrities in Nigeria.

Reminisce is a Nigerian household name. He is a musical icon amongst today’s youth, and an internationally recognized artiste.

Reminisce is a well-loved Brand Ambassador for Samsung and Origin, a popular herb and liquor cocktail produced by Diageo plc in Africa. As far back as when he was in secondary school, Reminisce was already performing at various school activities, hardly knowing he was on a path to great things.

He always wanted to be a rapper and he developed his rap skills by listening to, and mimicking major rap legends like Jay Z, 2Pac, Snoop Dogg and Eminem. Producer ID Cabasa discovered Reminisce alongside other Nigerian music artistes such as Jahbless, 9ice, Lord of Ajasa and Olamide.

Reminisce was given the chance to record his first studio song in 2006 and recorded a hardcore rap album at Coded Tunes, but the album was never released and he decided to focus on his studies and completed studies before moving forward with his music career.

In 2008, Reminisce returned to the music scene, performing a rap verse on a track titled “Bachelor’s Life” off 9ice’s sophomore album titled “Gongo Aso”. His first single “Ever since” featured 9ice and was a story about his life till that moment when he sang the song. His second hit single “If Only” was a love song produced by Dtunez, where he showed his versatility as a singer and a rapper. Both songs established Reminisce in the Nigerian music industry.

Reminisce is signed to Edge Records label, a record label in which he establish by himself. He is also the founder and creative director of LRR Records. Reminisce growing up listening to various genres of local and foreign music helped form his versatile musical style.

In 2014, Time Magazine named Reminisce as “one of the seven World Rappers You Should Meet”. He was also named by Nigeria’s largest music site, NotJustOk.com as one of the top three hip hop artists of 2014.

On 31^st March 2012, Reminisce’s first album “Book of Rap Stories” was released. He started recording the album since 2010 after linking up with the studio producer Sarz at Edge Records Studios. The studio allowed him to carve a niche for himself and make the album bilingual.

He went on to release the hit track “Kako Bii Chicken” a commercial song which is recognized as the breakout single. After this, other songs like “If Only” and “2mussh” were released.

The album was a 13-track album with production credits to Sarz, Legendury Beatz, Joshbeatz, Jospo and PastorChild. The album did well commercially in the southern western part of Nigeria, most especially in the commercial city of Lagos.

Reminisce second album “Alagba Ibile” was officially released on 15^th November 2013. The album featured acts like Wizkid, Naeto C, Davido, Olamide and Sossick. It was an instant breakthrough album, with hit singles like “Eleniyan” featuring Wizkid, Fela Daddy, Davido, Fantasi and 3rd World Thug. His second studio album “Alagba Ibile” sold a million copies worldwide before the end of 2014.

Reminisce third album “Baba Hafusa” was released in 2015. The album “Baba Hafusa” project has already broken barriers and charted unknown territories. Just recently, Reminisce became the only hip hop artist in all of Africa to have an album debut at number 12 on Billboard Charts World Music category.

With over 500,000 copies sold in Nigeria in just two weeks and the album claiming the number one spot in iTunes for more than a week. Reminisce third album “Baba Hafusa” is unarguably one of the most successful hip hop albums in Nigerian history.

He has already described the album as a “genre busting album”. In 2016, Reminisce released his fourth debut studio album “El Hadj” which was also a global success.

Reminisce has released several hits singles like One Chance, Ever Since, If Only, Kako Bii Chicken, 2musshh, Fantasi, Government, Daddy, Eleniyan, Turn It Around, Tesojue, Local Rappers, Skilashi, Kpomo, Angelina, Ponmile, Problem, Do U Feel It, Level yen, etc.

Reminisce is currently one of the richest and most influential artiste in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $1.7 million.
