Former deputy senate president of Nigeria, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife have been apprehended and denied bail after it was alleged that the former deputy senate president and his wife were involved in some organ harvesting case. According to Niger News, the former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife were caught in London by the UK metropolitan police.
The police force in a statement on Thursday alleged that the former deputy senate president of Nigeria and his wife conspired to assist the travel of a child to the United Kingdom unknown to the child that his organs were meant to be harvested.
The police department further stated that Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife have been taken to court following the investigations carried out by its special crime team. However, the police force confirmed that the child is now in safe hands.
The statement reads; “Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu and her husband Ike Ekweremadu, both citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting. They have both been remanded in custody of the metropolitan police and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates Court next two weeks”.
On Thursday, the former deputy senate President and his wife were arraigned at the Uxbridge Magistrate Court in London over claims that they traffic a 15-year-old boy from Lagos to the United Kingdom with the intent to harvest his organs. The court denied them bail. It was gathered that the couple’s child is suffering from a chronic kidney disease and needed a transplant. So they brought the poor boy who was suffering hardship in Nigeria and promise to take him to United Kingdom and change his life. Little did the poor boy knew that they were planning to harvest his organ.
When Ike Ekeremmadu and his wife , his sick daughter that needed a kidney transplant and the poor boy got to UK, Ike Ekeremmadu took the poor boy to the hospital in the UK where the kidney transplant was to be done. When the doctors harvested the poor boy kidney and tried to replace it with Ike Ekeremmadu daughters own, they discovered that the poor boy kidney does not match with Ike Ekeremmadu daughter’s own. So they discharge the poor boy and in the process of taken him back to Nigeria, the boy raise an alarm.
The poor boy after seeing the beauty of United Kingdom refuses to go back to Nigeria, he ran to metropolitan police in UK and told them that Ike Ekeremmadu and his wife where planning to harvest his organ. The Metropolitan police sweep into action and got Senator Ike Ekeremmadu and his wife arrested and charge to court in London.
They were accused of human trafficking and organ harvesting, and after they denied all the charges against them, the court denied them bail and adjourned their case till July. They were both denied bail and have both been remanded in custody of the metropolitan police and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates Court in London on 7th July 2022, where their fate will be decided.
According to the Nation Newspaper, in a report obtained from the Daily Mail, Gavin Irwin and Antonia Gray spoke in favor of Ike Ekweremmadu and his wife, and they told the court that at no stage did the senator arrange to transport anyone to the UK with the intention to exploit them.
Mr. Gavin further stated that the allegation against Ike Ekweremmadu is a serious one, and that the accused was once a deputy senate president in Nigeria and is currently a senator as well as a member of the bar in Nigeria with a law firm that bears his name.
Defending Senator Ike Ekweremmadu wife, Antonia Gray stated that she has never been involved in any form of illegal trafficking of a young person, and that she is a financial accountant with an unblemished record. However, despite their attempts, the court refused to grant them bail and adjourned their case till July 7, 2022 when their fate will be decided.
However, in the midst of this controversy, Labour Party Presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra state,
Peter Obi has send a sympathetic message to Ike Ekweremadu’s Family and pleads that justice to be done over their case.
A good leader can forgive, move on and open a new chapter of life whenever people, friends, or associates throw shades on them. Mr. Peter Obi, the labor party Presidential candidate is the man with all the leadership qualities, a man who pardons all offenses and moves on.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu recently urges the Igbo people not to vote for Mr. Peter Obi because their votes will be a wasted vote. Barely a week after he made such statements he was arrested in London by the UK metropolitan police for alleged Human Trafficking and organ harvesting.
In reacting to his arrest, Mr. Peter Obi took to his official Twitter handle and pen down a prayer for Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s family and at thesame time prayed that the health of their daughter will be restored.
According to his tweet on Twitter Mr Peter Obi state; my family and I are with the Ekweremadu over their travail. We join all men of goodwill in praying for the healing of their daughter and commit them into God’s hand for justice to be done.
