Soldiers Shoot MC Oluomo Dead At INEC Collation Centre

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, Akinlabi Akinnaso popularly known as Oluomo, has been shot dead. Mr Akinnaso, also known as ‘Oluomo’, was killed by soldiers deployed to maintain security at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Centre in the Owena area of Ayetoro in Idanre town.

The PDP Chieftain was said to have accompanied the newly elected winner of the House of Representatives for Ifedore/Idanre Federal Constituency, Festus Akingbaso, to receive a Certificate of Return from INEC, when he was ‘accidentally shot’. Sources who spoke to our correspondent in a chat revealed that Mr Akinnaso was allegedly trying to force himself into the collation centre when he was shot.

His corpse had been deposited at the hospital’s morgue. Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the spokeswoman for the police in Ondo state, who confirmed the incident, said she was still gathering the details of the incident and promised to get back. Mr Akingbaso, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was on Sunday declared the winner of the Ifedore/Idanre Federal Constituency.

He scored 24,263 votes to beat Tajudeen Adefisoye, the incumbent and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to poll 20,064 votes in the weekend election.

THISDAY gathered that “Oluomo” lost his life on Sunday morning after he was allegedly shot by one of the security agents present at the INEC Collation Centre, at Owena-Ayetoro, in Idanre. THISDAY also gathered that the deceased was allegedly involved in a scuffle with the armed personnel while the Certificate of Return was about to be given to the winner of the House of Representatives elected, Hon. Festus Akingbaso Fessywest, the Incumbent Member of Ondo State House of Assembly representing Idanre Local Government Area Constituency.

However, the corpse of the deceased, who is in his forties, has been deposited in the mortuary of the General Hospital, Idanre after he had been certified dead by the Medical Doctor on duty. He was allegedly killed by the security agents guarding the electoral commission’s office.
