Steve Jobs Biography and Life History

Steven Paul Jobs popularly known as Steve Jobs is a famous American business magnate, investor, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, author and a philanthropist. He was born on 24th February 1955 in San Francisco, California in the United States of America and died on 5th October 2011 in Palo Alto, California in the United States of America. He died at the age of 56 years old and the cause of his death was pancreatic cancer. His resting place is at Alta Mesa Memorial Park.

Steve Jobs was born to Abdulfattah Jandali and Joanne Schieble, and was adopted by Paul Jobs and Clara Hagopian. He grew up with only one sister named Patty. His adopted father Paul Jobs was a machinist and fixed cars as a hobby. His biological father, Abdulfattah Jandali grew up in Homs, Syria and was born into an Arab Muslim household.

 

Steve Jobs was the Co-founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Apple Inc. He is also the Chairman of Pixar and also the Founder, Chairman and CEO of NeXT. He was a member of the Walt Disney Company’s board of directors following its acquisition of Pixar. Steve Jobs is widely recognized as a pioneer of the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s, along with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Steve Jobs was born in San Francisco, California in the United States of America and was put up for adoption. He was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He attended Reed College in 1972 before dropping out that same year and traveled through India in 1974 seeking enlightenment and studying Zen Buddhism.

In 1976, Steve Jobs and his friend Wozniak co-founded Apple and launched their first personal computer Apple I. Together Steve Jobs and his friend Wozniak gained fame and wealth a year later after the launch of Apple II, one of the first highly successful mass-produced personal computers.

Steve Jobs saw the commercial potential of the Xerox Alto in 1979, which was mouse-driven and had a graphical user interface (GUI). This led to the development of the unsuccessful Apple Lisa in 1983, followed by the breakthrough Macintosh in 1984, the first mass-produced computer with a GUI.

The Macintosh introduced the desktop publishing industry in 1985 with the addition of the Apple LaserWriter, the first laser printer to feature vector graphics. Steve Jobs was forced out of Apple in 1985 after a long power struggle with the company’s board and its then-CEO John Sculley.

That same year, Steve Jobs took a few of Apple’s members with him and founded another company called “NeXT” which happens to be a computer platform development company that specialized in computers for higher-education and business markets. In addition to that, he helped to develop the visual effects industry when he funded the computer graphics division of George Lucas film known as Lucasfilm in 1986.

The new company he established that same period was Pixar, which produced Toy Story, the first fully computer-animated film. In 1997, Apple merged with NeXT and Steve Jobs became the CEO of his former company within a few months.

He was largely responsible for helping revive Apple, which had been at the verge of bankruptcy. He worked closely with designer Jony Ive to develop a line of products that had larger cultural ramifications, beginning in 1997 with the “Think Different” advertising campaign and leading to the iMac, iTunes Store, iPod, iPhone, App Store and the iPad.

In 1972, Steve Jobs got married to his first wife Chrisann Brennan and lost her in 1977. In 1991, Steve Jobs got married again to his second wife Laurene Powell and the marriage is currently blessed with four grown up children namely Lisa Brennan Jobs, Eve Jobs, Erin Siena Jobs and Reed Jobs.

In 2001, the original Mac OS was replaced with a completely new Mac OS X, based on NeXT platform, giving the OS a modern Unix-based foundation for the first time.

In 2003, Steve Jobs was diagnosed with a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. Unfortunately, he died of respiratory arrest related to the tumor on 5th October 2011 at age of 56 years old.

Steve Jobs was one of the richest and most influential personality and public figure in the United States of America before his death with an estimated net worth of $10.2 billion.
