Taribo West is a famous Nigerian football player, investor, entrepreneur and a philanthropist. He has been described as one of the best defender in the game of football and one of the greatest and most powerful defender of all time and also one of the most successful footballers in Africa. He was born on 26th March 1974 in Port Harcourt, River State in the south southern part of Nigeria. He is currently 44 years old.
He was a Nigerian former professional footballer who played as a defender. He is best remembered for his various unusual and colourful hairstyles. Taribo West was discovered by Monday Sinclair, who recruited him to play for Sharks. In 1989, he started playing football professionally with Obanta United, before returning to Sharks in 1990. In 1991, Taribo West played for Enugu Rangers, before joining Julius Berger in 1992.
After winning several major trophies with Auxere in French football, Taribo West went on to play for both Milanese clubs, Internazionale and Milan. He also appeared in the top level leagues of England and Germany.
From 1994 to 2005, Taribo West played for the Nigerian national team (Super Eagles) where he made 42 caps for Nigeria. He has being a member of the Nigerian national team (Super Eagles) in two World Cups and two African Championships. He also represented his country Nigeria at the 1996 Summer Olympics and won the 1996 gold medal.
Taribo West was a member of the Flying Eagles at the 1993 African Youth Championship. In 1998, he was named in the 22-man squad for the 1998 FIFA World Cup alongside with Jay-Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Sunday Oliseh, Daniel Amokachi and others. They reached the second stage of the tournament, and was later eliminated by Denmark in the round 16 of the tournament.
During the 2000 African Cup of Nation, Taribo West played the full 90 minutes in all of Nigeria’s games in the competition, as they finished as runners-up to Cameroon, who later won the trophy. Taribo West also represented his country Nigeria in the 2002 African Cup of Nation, finishing in third place.
He was also a member of the Nigerian national team (Super Eagles) who played at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. In January 2004, Taribo West suffered an injury during the team’s training session that ruled him out of the African Cup of Nations. On 17th August 2005, he returned to the national team, making his final appearance for the Super Eagles in a friendly match against Libya before retiring from international football.
After retiring from international football, Taribo West eventually became a pastor after many years of playing football. In 2014, Taribo West founded a church called “Shelter in the Storm Miracle Ministries of All Nation” in Lagos, Nigeria, where he is currently ministering as a pastor.
