The four teenage boys who were arrested in the early hours of Saturday, 29th January 2022 have continued to reveal more details behind their murderous act. The suspects who were nabbed for slaughtering Sofiat Kehinde and burning her head for money ritual have said they got the guidelines on popular social media platform, Facebook.
The teenagers, namely Wariz Oladeinde 17 years old, Abdulgafar Lukman 19 years old, Mustakeem Balogun 20 years old, and Soliu Majekodunmi 18 years old, said they were inspired by the guidelines, saying that it informed why they decided to slaughter Sofiat Kehinde, who is a girlfriend of one of them.
Sofiat Kehinde’s boyfriend, Soliu Majekodunmi, confessed that when the victim visited him on Friday last week, he strangled her and cut off her head immediately with the aid of his accomplices.
Speaking on how the idea of the money ritual came to life, Soliu Majekodunmi explained that Mustakeem was the head behind the plan. He said that last year December, Mustakeem gave him Sofiat’s number and advised him to date her.
Sofiat came to his house after he called her and she agreed to date him. He then informed Mustakeem of this development. When Sofiat came to visit him the second time, he also informed Mustakeem who then said she is not a good girl and advised that we should use her for money ritual.
Soliu revealed that he wasn’t comfortable with this decision and even tried to dissuade Sofiat from coming to his house to visit him but it was all to no avail. Mustakeem kept pestering him over the issue. He said Mustakeem used to attend the same Islamic society (Asalatu) with Sofiat and he was the one who brought the guidelines from Facebook and pestered all of them to carry out the act so as to become rich quickly.
“Mustakeem said he saw a guideline for ‘Osole’ (money ritual) on Facebook and he had a screenshot of it. So they contributed money and purchased other ingredients needed for the ritual, while awaiting the day they would kill the lady.
“So, eventually, Sofiat came to my house on Friday. I was inside my room with her while Mustakeem was outside. Later Mustakeem told me that we should go ahead and use her since all other needed items for the rituals are ready.”
So he strangled her and cut off her head immediately with the aid of his accomplices. They then packed her remains in a sack, and dumped it in an old building.
They subsequently led policemen to the building, where the dismembered body was recovered and deposited at the general hospital mortuary for autopsy. The short cutlass and a knife used in cutting off the deceased head were also recovered.
Soliu told newsmen that he had regretted his action, urging other youths who are in a hurry to make money quickly to wait for their time. “I have regrets. If I knew it would end up like this I would not have gotten myself involved in the act. My advice to those who don’t want to wait for their time is that, they should please wait for their time,” he said.
The deceased’s sister, speaking on her final moments said on that fateful day after she put a pot of beans on the fire in the evening, the deceased took permission from her to go out, to which she agreed. She said she had no idea where she was going.
Okeowo said; “When it was around 8.30 pm, I called her number and asked if she was coming home tonight. She answered saying she was already on her way and almost home. So, I went to bed.
“Around 10 pm, I called her, only to discover that her number was no longer reachable. I asked her mother if she had seen her daughter, she said no. The following morning, I asked her mother again and she gave the same response.
“It was later in the day that I heard that a lady was killed and beheaded in the community. I was suspicious at that moment since I had not seen Rofiat.”
When she saw the viral video showing the suspects, she recognized one of them, so she hurriedly took her photo to Adatan Police Station where the Divisional Police Officer told her that she had been murdered.
Since the horrible tragedy, Okeowo revealed that their mother is not aware of her death. She said their mother who is suffering from hypertension has not been informed of the situation because they are afraid she might die from the shock.
“If we tell her now and she dies, that will leave us with two dead bodies,” she said. Her uncle, Akeem Ramon said as soon as he heard of the incident, he took the girl’s mother to Ifo area to prevent her from hearing the sad news, which he feared might lead to her death.
Okeowo further revealed that it came as a shock to her that it was her boyfriend that killed her. She said they had warned Rofiat’s boyfriend to stop seeing her and since then they had not laid eyes on him, so they assumed the relationship had ended.
“Government should ensure she’s avenged. Those that killed her should be killed as well. They should also be beheaded just as they did to her,” Okeowo tearfully charged the government.
