Thomas Jeffrey Hanks popularly known as Tom Hanks is a famous American actor and filmmaker known for both his comedic and dramatic roles in movies. Tom Hanks is one of the most popular and recognizable film stars worldwide and is widely regarded as an American cultural icon. He is very handsome, gifted, skillful, creative and talented. He was born on 9th July 1956 in Concord, California in the United States of America. He is currently 63 years old.
In 1978, he got married to Samantha Lewes and divorced her in 1987. In 1988, he got married to Rita Wilson and the marriage is currently blessed with four grown up children namely Colin Hanks, Chet Hanks, Truman Hanks and Elizabeth Hanks. He has starred in movies like Greyhound, Elvis, New of the World and many more.
Tom Hanks’ films have grossed more than $4.9 billion in North America and more than $9.96 billion worldwide, making him the fifth-highest-grossing actor in North America. Tom Hanks made his breakthrough with leading roles in the comedies Splash in 1984 and Big in 1988. In 1993, he won two consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor for starring as a gay lawyer suffering from AIDS in Philadelphia and a young man with below-average IQ in Forrest Gump.
Tom Hanks collaborated with film director Steven Spielberg on six films namely Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, Bridge of Spies, The Post, and Band of Brothers, which launched him as a film director, producer and screenwriter. Tom Hanks’ other notable films include the romantic comedies Sleepless in Seattle which was produced in 1993, You Have Got Mail which was produced in 1998, Apollo 13 which was produced in 1995, The Green Mile which was produced in 1999, Cast Away which was produced in 2002, Cloud Atlas which was produced in 2012, and the biographical dramas Saving Mr. Banks which was produced in 2013.
He has also starred in Captain Phillips which was produced in 2016 and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood which was produced in 2019. He has been in the film industry for over 40 years. He has also appeared as the title character in the Robert Langdon film series and has voiced Sheriff Woody in the Toy Story film series.
Tom Hanks accolades include two Academy Awards out of six nominations. He has received the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 2004. In 2014, he received a Kennedy Center Honor, and in 2016, he received a Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama, as well as the French Legion of Honor.
