  • […] Michael Owen, Mark Lawrenson and Paul Merson have all predicted Chelsea to come out comfortable winners in their clash with Southampton on Saturday afternoon. The Blues , who have lost their last two matches in all competitions against Manchester City and Juventus, will be desperate to bring their two-game losing streak to an end at the weekend. However, Chelsea’s recent record against the Saints at Stamford Bridge is not amazing. The Blues have not beaten the south coast-based outfit in west London since in the Premier League since 2017 but Thomas Tuchel will be determined to end that trend on Saturday. Owen , when speaking to BetVictor about this weekend’s action in the Premier League, predicted Chelsea to come out 3-0 winners against the Saints. He said: “Chelsea were disappointing against Man City. Thomas Tuchel prides himself on having his team organised and hard to beat but I felt they were a little too defensive against Man City and didn’t really lay a glove on them. “Southampton would have been eyeing the win against Wolves last week, so to lose it must be a body blow. They are still winless in the league, and just don’t create enough chances. They’ve only scored four in the league and desperately need to address that. “The Saints have had some good results against the big teams this season, with draws against City and United, but I don’t think they’ll get anything here. I reckon Chelsea will be too strong and will win this comfortably.” Meanwhile, Lawrenson , when writing on the BBC Sport website, predicted the same scoreline as Owen. He said: “Chelsea have lost their past two games, against Manchester City and Juventus, but this is not the start of any serious slump. “Blues boss Thomas Tuchel will demand a performance this time, and I would be shocked if their losing run continues on Saturday. Southampton have looked good in some of their games, but that hasn’t been enough for them to win one yet. “Saints will probably adopt a similar approach to the one that got them a draw at Etihad Stadium a couple of weeks ago, and will hope for a similar performance too. “But a point is probably the best they can hope for again here – and I don’t see them getting one.” Finally, Merson also expects Chelsea to overturn their recent form, but thinks it will be 2-0 to the Blues rather than the other two saying 3-0. Speaking to SportsKeeda , the former Arsenal midfielder said: “Southampton were beaten 1-0 by Wolves in their previous Premier League encounter, but they got a point against Manchester City after a 0-0 draw earlier this month. “The way they play, they are quite unpredictable and will cause Chelsea a lot of problems, but I fancy Chelsea to win this one. “They are playing at home and will look to return to winning ways after two disappointing results in all competitions, I think they’ll win this 2-0. “In the UEFA Champions League against Juventus, they played some good football but were dealt with a sucker punch with Federico Chiesa’s goal. “Mason Mount is a massive player, they really miss him. Hopefully he’s fit and comes straight back into the team in the weeks ahead.” […]
