The call for a full investigation into the alleged arrest of the helicopter said to be supplying weapons and food to terrorists in North west states has been made by so many interest groups. One of those groups is the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) who made the demand on Monday through the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Yawe.
There was an earlier report of how General Abdulsalami Abubakar, a former Nigerian Head of State denied a report by some online media platforms that he owns the helicopter that was sighted supplying arms and food items to bandits in Niger State. Unfortunately, the former Head of State described the reports as false, unfounded and fake news.
Many residents of Kagara which happened to be General Abdulsalami Abubakar’s home in Niger State had said they sighted a helicopter supplying weapons and food items to the armed bandits terrorizing the area. According to many residents who disclosed that one of the helicopters was said to have crashed in Pangu Gari village on the outskirts of Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
The National Publicity Secretary of Arewa Consultative Forum, Emmanuel Yawe, while reacting to the reports said the federal government had slammed a ban on flights over Zamfara state on March this year, during the kidnapping of students of the Jangebe Government Girls Secondary School.
According to his words; “Our National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbe, while reacting, issued a statement demanding that the ban should be extended to states such as Borno, Taraba, Benue, Yobe where there were rumours of a mysterious helicopter dropping arms, foodstuffs and other supplies for bandits,” Emmanuel Yawe stated.
“There are various stories today that one of the helicopters that has been used to drop supplies for the criminals has been arrested. The stories are rather confusing with scandalous accusation that a former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar owns the aircraft.
“We have carefully followed these so confusing revelations in the media. The Arewa Consultative Forum is convinced that there is a need for transparent investigations on the orders of the President, Muhammadu Buhari. We hope the outcome of this investigation will clear the air about righting our security challenges,” the group stated.
The shocking revelations led to further calls by Nigerians that all top government officials using banditry as a business opportunity should be investigated, arrested, exposed to the world and finally prosecuted.
