Unknown Gunmen Kidnap Former Anambra Lawmaker And Cut Off His Head

Anambra State Police command has on Wednesday confirmed that some unknown gunmen have killed and cut off the head of a former lawmaker in the state. BBC reported the news on Wednesday evening, and according to them, the victim is identified as Nelson Achukwu, a businessman and a former lawmaker in the state. And the incident has happened just weeks after another serving lawmaker, Okechukwu Okoye was killed and beheaded by this heartless unknown gunmen.

According to the report, Nelson Achukwu was living with a disability, and he was already kidnapped by a group of people some months ago but was later released after some weeks. And according to the Anambra State Police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga the gunmen came back and kidnapped the man again in his house in Ukpor Community on 9 June, 2022 and they tried to rescue him before the unfortunate incident happened, and they later found his dead body between the boundary of Uke and Ukpor. Tochukwu Ikenga however disclosed that the Police are still carrying out their investigation, and they will ensure that the culprits face the law.

However, the Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing and beheading of a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Nelson Achukwu, by unknown gunmen and describes it as disastrous.

Nelson Achukwu who represented Nnewi South II between 2003 and 2007 during the reign of Dr Chris Ngige as governor of Anambra was kidnapped and later executed by these heartless unknown gunmen. The incident occurred barely a month after one Okechukwu Okoye representing Aguata Constituency II was kidnapped and later found beheaded in Nnobi area alongside his aide.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said on Tuesday in Awka that Nelson Achukwu’s body was found at the boundary of Uke and Ukpor communities.

According to his words; “The victim was abducted at about 10:15 pm in his house on June 9, 2022, and efforts were being made to rescue him before this unfortunate development. His body was found between the boundary of Uke and Ukpor communities both in Anambra state. We are still nosing around to ensure that the culprits are uncovered and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

He expressed regret that the former lawmaker was kidnapped in his country home Ukpor, Nnewi South local government area of the state, in spite of being physically challenged.

According to his words; “His decapitated body was found at the bank of Ulasi River and was quickly buried by the family on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in the evening as the body was already decomposing,” Anambra Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu stated.

A source close to the family said that the kidnappers collected N15 million ransom and went ahead to kill their victim. According to his words; “The deceased lawmaker was kidnapped a few months ago and later released before the June 9, 2022 incident,” the source who preferred anonymity added.

Nelson Achukwu was the owner of Nelly Oil and Gas filling station located on Onuselogu road, Utuh in Nnewi South local government area of the state. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
