Joseph Van Vicker popularly known as Van Vicker is a famous Ghanaian actor, model, TV host, investor, entrepreneur, television personality and a philanthropist. He is popularly known as a lover boy due to the romantic roles he plays in movies. His father died when he was just six years old.

Van Vicker is a talented actor from Ghana. He has distinguished himself from others as one of the most prolific actors in Ghana. He is very handsome, gifted skillful, creative and talented. He knows how to interpret his roles very well and can fit very well in any role given to him by movie directors and producers.

He was born on 1st August 1977 in Accra, Ghana to a Liberian mother and a Dutch father. He is currently 45 years old. He completed both his primary and secondary school education at Mfantsipim School alongside with his fellow actor Majid Michel.  Mfantsipim School is also the alma mater of former Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan. He has often stated in several interviews that he considers himself a global citizen as he was raised all over the world by his single mother.

Van Vicker is the chief executive officer of Sky + Orange production, a film production house. In 2008, he received two nominations for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” and “Best Upcoming Actor” at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2008. After completing his primary and secondary school education, Van Vicker went further to Kwame Nkruah University of Science and Technology in Accra, Ghana and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication. After which he graduated from African University College of Communication in 2021. Vicker was born and bred in Accra, Ghana. His father died when he was just six years old. Due to the early death of his father, Van Vicker has stated in several interviews that he is very close to his mother and considers her his hero.

After completing his tertiary education, Van Vickers started out his career in the entertainment industry as a radio presenter at Groove 106.3 FM between 1999 to 2000. He has also worked as a radio presenter for Vibe 91.9 FM between 2001 to 2004 and as a television personality for TV3 Ghana from 1997 to 1999 and Metro TV from 2000 to 2004. His first movie was a blockbuster movie titled “Suncity”. Vicker appeared in the Ghanaian television series Sun city, which depicted university life. He played the character of LeRoy King Jr., a Fine Arts student born in the U.S. who arrives at Suncity to complete his education. The series ran for a total of 10 episodes.

Van Vicker joined the Ghana movie industry popularly known as Ghallywood in 2004 and acted in his first film titled Suncity. He was later cast in his first Nollywood film titled “Divine Love” as a supporting character alongside with Jackie Appiah and Majid Michel in 2005. This film coincidentally, was also the debut roles for fellow actors Jackie Appiah and Majid Michel who were cast in the female and male lead respectively. Van Vicker is usually cast as the male romantic lead, alongside Ghanaian actresses like Jackie Appiah and Nadia Buari. He is often compared to fellow Ghanaian actor Majid Michel and Nigerian actor Ramsey Nouah, due to their close resemblance and unique roles in movies.

In 2008, Van Vicker was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Upcoming Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. In 2009, he won the Ghana Movies Awards and the Nollywood Academy Films Critics’ Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role. In 2011, Van Vicker won the Pan African Creative Actor’s Awards. In 2012, his movie ‘Joni Waka’ earned him the award for Best Actor and Best Director in Ghana at the Ghana Movie Awards. In 2013, he won the Best International Actor award at the Papyrus Magazine Screen Actors Awards which was held in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.

Van Vicker has appeared in numerous Nollywood films alongside prominent Nollywood actors, including Tonto Dikeh, Mercy Johnson, Stephanie Okereke, Chika Ike and Jim Iyke. His Nollywood movies include; My Soul Mate, Heart of Fire, Popular King, Gambling with Marriage, Harvest of Love, Stolen Will, The Joy of a Prince, Discovered, The Kingdom and Against the law.

Van Vicker has directed, starred in, and produced five films under his Sky + Orange Productions since 2008. 2012 was the biggest year for his production house, earning him the NAFCA Best Actor and Director Awards for his comedy movie, Joni Waka. Van Vicker has been nominated for and won numerous awards from Africa to the Caribbean. Awards include Ghana Movie Awards, ACRAG awards and the Nollywood Academy Films Critics’ Awards. In 2009, he won the Best African Caribbean Actor and Best Actor African American and in 2011, he won the Pan African creative actor award. In 2013, he won the Best International Actor award at the Papyrus Magazine Screen Actors Awards in 2013, which was held in Abuja, Nigeria.

Aside from acting in Ghana movies, Van Vicker has also featured in several Nollywood movies which include My Soul Mate, Heart of Fire, Popular King, Harvest of Love, amongst others. He is one of the renowned African actors known worldwide. He has directed and produced over five films under his production name since 2008. Van Vicker is currently married to Adjoa Vicker, a lady he met since 1999 and they are blessed with three children, comprising of two girls and one boy.

Van Vicker is currently the CEO of Sky + Orange Productions, a film production house where students are trained in the field of acting. Aside from acting, Van Vicker is also a philanthropist. He has a charity organization and a foundation, which is aimed at helping and assisting physically challenge and displaced people.

Van Vicker currently has an estimated net worth of over $2.5 million, making him one of the richest and most influential actors in Ghana. Aside from acting, he is also an investor and has several real estate investments.
