The family of late singer, yesterday, alleged that they are under threat from Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley and others. The late singer’s mother, Mrs Adebose Oluniyi, has called for maximum protection. Mrs Oluniyi stated this when the lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Senator Ishaku Abbo, alongside with Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh and Iyabo Ojo, visited the family of the late singer, yesterday.
The senator however assured the family of maximum protection, stressing that any intimidation on them will not be tolerated. During the visit, Mrs Oluniyi said her family is facing serious threat and living in fear. She accused Naira Marley of threatening her family.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian music industry appears to be distancing itself from Naira Marley gradually. In a recent move that is causing ripples in the industry, two major music channels, Soundcity and MTV Base, have taken a bold step by removing Naira Marley’s songs from their playlists.
This decision comes in the aftermath of allegations connecting the artist to the tragic death of Mohbad. For those who have been following the relationship between Naira Marley and Mohbad, this news may not come as a complete surprise. Mohbad, who was once part of Naira Marley’s Marlian Records label, parted ways with the record label in 2022. Since then, tensions between the two artists have escalated, resulting in public disputes.
One of the most memorable incidents occurred in October 2022 when Mohbad shared a live video depicting a distressing moment where he was seen crying and fleeing from a building in Chevron, Lekki. With Mohbad’s tragic death, attention has naturally turned towards Naira Marley.
Soundcity and MTV Base’s decision to exclude Naira Marley’s songs from their playlists is a show of solidarity amid the ongoing controversies. Although they have not explicitly stated the reasons for this decision, it’s evident that the cloud of controversy surrounding the artist played a role in their choice.
It’s worth noting that Splash FM, another prominent player in the music scene, also joined the ranks in discontinuing the play of Naira Marley’s songs. They have taken a firm stance and are encouraging other stations to follow suit. This collective action sends a powerful message that the music industry is not willing to overlook controversies or alleged connections to tragic events.
Over the past week, Naira Marley has also seen a noticeable decline in his social media followers. His Instagram followers which stood at 7.5 million at the time of Mohbad’s death, has since dropped to 6.8 million, meaning that over 700,000 people have unfollowed him on Instagram.
However, Lere Olayinka, the media aide to former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has taken to social media to condemn the mother of late singer MohBad. According to Olayinka, Mohbad’s mum abandoned her kids for 15 years, resurfacing after Mohbad died on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
Olayinka wrote; “A woman left two children, Mohbad and his sister, in the hands of a man and never looked back until after 15 years. Today, the same woman is living in an apartment in a major Estate in Lekki, Lagos, courtesy of the child she abandoned for 15 years!
“Meanwhile, the daughter she abandoned alongside Mohbad had to learn Tailoring and has no shop of her own up till today. She is doing her tailoring in her father’s house. And the same woman is receiving condolences on a child who died because the mother who should have helped to make him a better person abandoned him for 15 years. MohBad passed away on Tuesday 12 September 2023 at the age of 27 years old.
Meanwhile, Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has donated N15 Million to assist Liam Aloba, son of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji also known as Mohbad.
In a post on Thursday on X, Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, disclosed that the President’s son has offered his support to Mohbad’s son.
Also, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) said the autopsy of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as Mohbad has been completed.
The NPF made this known on its X page on Thursday night.
Recall that Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin had earlier announced that Mohbad’s body was exhumed for autopsy.
“The Nigeria Police Force wished to inform the public that the autopsy procedure for Mr Mohbad has been successfully completed,” the NPF wrote.
“Furthermore the information will be provided as soon as the results are available,” it added.
Mohbad’s death last Tuesday raised concerns, as an accusing finger was pointed at the Marlian Record Label’s owner Afeez Fashola professionally known as Naira Marley.
