Chidinma Ojukwu, a 300-level student of Mass Communication from the University of Lagos has been arrested over the death of Mr Usifo Ataga, chief executive officer of Super TV and she has given the reason for her action. Speaking when she was paraded at the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday, Chidinma Ojukwu said she stabbed him because he attempted to force himself on her.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mr. Ataga’s lifeless body was on June 16, 2021 found in a flat in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos with multiple wounds. The student who said she was arrested at her residence at Alagomeji, Yaba, where she resides with her parents, said that she met Mr. Ataga about five months ago.
According to her; “On Sunday 13th June 2021, he asked that I get a place where we can stay. I checked online and sent to him, he asked me to go check it out which I did and paid.
“On Monday, 14th June 2021, we were together drinking; smoking and I also went to get food. On Tuesday, 15th June 2021, he was making advances at me and I resisted, so he became violent and later had his way.
“In the afternoon he ordered for smoke, ate and we became high because I also smoked with him even though I was still angry for the first one he did.
“So, I was on my own, watching a movie on the couch. He came at me again and I said no because I wasn’t happy with him. I told him that he doesn’t help me but only plays me around, he kept trying to make advances and I was resisting so I had to defend myself.
“At some point, he hit my head on the wall and was choking me. I tried escaping but the door was locked so he pulled me back.
“I grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him twice in the neck and threw the knife on the bed. He then tried reaching for the knife so I picked it again and stabbed him the third time,” she said. She said she only withdrew N380,000 from Mr. Ataga’s account after she had escaped and not N5 million as stipulated.
An eye witness, who goes by the name Odumosu, while addressing newsmen, said the student hurriedly changed her clothes and left the apartment. Odumosu said Mr. Ataga’s body was discovered in a pool of blood when it was time to clean the apartment on Wednesday 16th June 2021, during which the door had to be broken.
Odumosu said the suspect escaped with the victim’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card which was used in withdrawing some money from his account. The commissioner of police said he deemed it necessary to brief the public on the update on the investigation noting that there have been fake reports in circulation.
Odumosu further urged the public to utilize the social media positively and not for fake report. News Agency of Nigeria learnt that Mr. Ataga was at first reported missing by concerned friends and family after all efforts to reach him proved abortive.
Checks at his Victoria Island office showed he was not there putting everyone in a panic mood, including his wife and children who reside in Abuja before his body was later found.
The 21 year old UNILAG undergraduate of Mass Communication, while granting interview with journalists disclosed that the reason she killed the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga was because he tried to force himself on her. According to the suspect, they were both drinking and smoking in a lodge which is located in the Lekki area of Lagos State where Usifo Ataga tried to make advances on her.
Chidinma claims that she refused but later agreed after Usifo Ataga became violent. Chidinma further stated that Usifo Ataga noticed that she wasn’t happy, so he decided to approach her in order to know the reason. Chidinma revealed that he doesn’t help or assist her with anything and that he just playing around with her.
According to Chidinma, Mr. Usifo Ataga gave his ATM card to her and told her that she can withdraw any amount she wants but he later turned violent and tried to get to her but she resisted and defended herself.
Chidinma said that she was running towards the door through the kitchen but Usifo Ataga never relented and tried to stop her from escaping from him. It was gathered that Chidinma stabbed him with a knife and went ahead to withdraw N380,000 from his account using his ATM card.
However, a CCTV footage of 21 years old Chidinma Ojukwu and SuperTV CEO, Usifo Ataga at a restaurant before she allegedly killed him has been shared online. The video showed them at the restaurant and also captured when they left the facility. This is coming after Chidinma disclosed that she stabbed Mr. Ataga twice after he allegedly became violent towards her.
