Willard Carroll Smith Jr popularly known as Will Smith is a famous Hollywood actor, film maker, motivational speaker, producer, rapper, comedian, songwriter and a philanthropist. He was born on 25th September 1968 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States of America. He is currently 49 years old.
He has three siblings namely; Pamela, Harry and Ellen. His mother’s name is Caroline Smith while his father’s name is Willard Carroll Smith. He grew up in West Philadelphia in Pennsylvania in the United States of America. His parents separated when he was 13 years old. Will Smith attended Our Lady of Lourdes, a private Catholic elementary school in Philadelphia and completed his primary school education there.
After that, he attended Overbrook High School where he completed his secondary school education. However, it was later revealed that Will Smith turned down a scholarship to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After his secondary school education, Will Smith dropped out from school to pursue a musical career as a rapper.
In 1980, Will Smith achieved a modest fame as a rapper under the name “The Fresh Prince”. In 1990 he joined the American movie industry (Hollywood) and starred in the popular NBC television series “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, which ran for six seasons until 1996. The film “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” made him very popular in the United States of America.
In 1992, Will Smith got married to Sheree Zampin. The marriage lasted for just three years and in 1995 they divorced and went their separate ways. After divorcing his first wife, Will Smith got married to Jada Pinkett Smith in 1997 and the couple is blessed with three children namely; Jaden Smith, Willow Smith and Trey Smith.
Will Smith has starred in over 150 Hollywood blockbuster movies. He is the only actor to have eight consecutive films gross over $100 million in the domestic box office, eleven consecutive films gross over $150 million internationally and eight consecutive films, in which he starred, open at the number one spot in the domestic box office tally.
Will Smith has been ranked as the most bankable star worldwide by Forbes Magazine. As of 2014, 17 out of the 21 films he has acted on as a lead character have accumulated worldwide gross earnings of over $100 million each, five taking in over $500 million each in global box office receipts. As of 2016, his films have grossed $7.5 billion at the global box office.
Will Smith has acted in over 150 Hollywood movies which include Hitch, The Pursuit of Happiness, I Am Legend, Hancock, Seven Pounds, Men in Black 3, After Earth, Winter’s Tale, Focus, Confusion, Suicide Squad, Collateral Beauty, Bright, etc.
In 2006, Will Smith received nomination for Best Actor in America at the Academy Awards. In April 2007, Newsweek called him “The Most Powerful Actor in Hollywood”. Will Smith has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards and has won four Grammy Awards.
Will Smith is currently one of the richest and most influential Hollywood actor in the United States of America with an estimated net worth of $250 million.
