Yemi Eberechi Alade popularly known as Yemi Alade is a famous Nigerian female Afro pop artiste, singer, songwriter, vocalist, recording artiste, stage performer, model and a television personality. She has been described as the best female vocalist in Nigeria and the most followed female celebrity in Nigeria. She was born on 13th March 1989 in Abia State in the south eastern part of Nigeria, but grew up in Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria. She is currently 33 years old.
Yemi Alade attended St Saviour British Primary School in Lagos, Nigeria and obtained her First School Leaving Certificate. After completing her primary school education, Yemi Alade proceeded to Victory Grammar School in Lagos, Nigeria and obtained her West African Senior School Certificate.
After completing her primary and secondary school education, Yemi Alade proceeded to Federal University of Lagos (UNILAG) and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography. Yemi Alade started singing since she was a teenager. She has been singing in her church as a chorister.
Her father’s name is James Alade, he is from Yoruba origin while her mother’s name is Helen Uzoma, she is from Igbo origin. According to her, this combination of two ethnic origins makes her a complete Nigerian. Yemi Alade is the fifth child out of the seven children in her family and she is very talented among the rest.
In 2009, Yemi Alade began her music career. She came into limelight after winning the Peak Talent Hunt Show competition held in 2009 and became a public figure after releasing her first hit single “Johnny” produced by Sele Bobo. The video of the song “Johnny” has surpassed 200 million views on YouTube.
In 2012, Yemi Alade signed a contract deal with a music record label known as “Effyzzie Music Group” and released her hit single “Ghen Ghen Love” produced by Sele Bobo. On March 2014, she became highly famous after her hit single “Johnny” broke the internet with over 200 million views on YouTube currently. On November 2017 her hit single “Johnny” rose to 75 million views on YouTube making it the most popular video on the internet by a female African entertainer.
On 2nd October 2014, Yemi Alade released her first debut studio album “King of Queens” with hits singles like Johnny, Tangerine, and Ghen Ghen Love. She refers to herself as a woman of steel. Her style of fashion is amazing. Yemi Alade has featured on the covers of trending magazines and has performed in different shows and events around the world alongside with Iyanya, Flavour, Banky W, Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Burna Boy, Sheyi Shay and Sele Bobo her music producer.
In 2014, Yemi Alade joined MI, Waje, Timi Dakolo and Burna Boy on the UNESCO World Book Capital 2014 theme song for the Port Harcourt World Book Capital, a project urging the new generation to read hard and stay in school.
Yemi Alade in the cause of her career as an entertainer has won so many awards and recognitions which include Most Promising Act to Watch at the Nigeria Music Video Awards, Best Pop Single and Song of the Year at the Headies Awards and Best Female Entertainer of the Year at the MTV Awards and many more.
Yemi Alade is currently the richest and most influential female musician in Nigeria and Africa in general with an estimated net worth of $12 million. She has been described as the queen of Afro pop in Africa. She has over 16 million followers on Instagram, making her the most followed female celebrity in Nigeria on Instagram.
